I'm making a quilt for my niece. I had found the pattern and went out and bought the material. It has a small red boarder and in the middle of the pattern there should be some red in the material in the center square. Well I couldn't find any material with some red in it that would look right. My question is that I want to add red to the center square. Can I use Material Paint? I don't want it to fade in color and I was tolded that it might. What is good to use to get the red on it? I allready started to piece the quilt together.

i would use inktense pencils and aloe vera gel or fabric medium over the section that you are coloring.

otherwise if you have procion dyes you can thicken it and paint with that.

You can use acrylic paint mixed with fabric medium too. It is a little thicker than a dye, but it won't fade :D:D:D

will it wash out? This quilt will be used everyday.

I can tell you very definitely that the regular acrylic paint from Walmart, Hobby Lobby or wherever will NOT wash out. My DGS got into his mom's paint tupper 2 or 3 years ago and got some of the paint on my robe. It's been washed many times and I still see it all on there.

Thank you for everybodys help. I will have to try them on a scrap piece of material.
