Do y'all have any suggestions/helpful hints for adding pictures to a quilt? I am making a truck quilt for my 2 year old grandson and want to add pictures of our family on one side of the quilt. His daddy is being relocated with his job and I thought it would be nice to include pictures of us on the quilt for him to keep us in his mind. There is a quilt store close to me that will transfer a picture onto fabric. I assume I can treat it like any other fabric but thought I might see what y'all say.

I made one for my daughter who was stationed in Iraq for 7 months. She loved it, just remember that if washed in a washer, it will loose a lot of color. it needs hand washed or dry cleaned to keep the vivid colors from the printer. I know some say they are washable, but I tested alot, and they loose alot of ink in washer washing. It made her feel great, so I made a thank you gift for my daughter by marriage, I don't call her my daughter in law, she is a second daughter!!! anyway, I made her one with her family, as a thank you for being my chemo driver, grocery shopper and all round support person during my treatments. she gave of herself, so I gave back!!! she cried, and said it was her favorite thing in the world. So I say go for it, even if it doesn't last forever, it will help him get thru the tough times and that is the most important thing.

I bought "Bubble Jet Set" -- just google that and sites will come up. Follow the instructions on the bottle. You need white cotton material ironed to freezer paper the size of your printer paper once you have treated the fabric with the Bubble Jet Set solution. Copy from your computer on to the white material and you're good to go.

if you have a Hewlett Packard printer, make sure you get the special Bubble Jet Set formula for HPs.

I'm with you....I don't call my son in law an "in law", he's my son. His best friend who was his best man is also a new son of mine. Love them both to death! If my youngest was older and the best friend wasn't married, he'd be who I would choose for a husband for my youngest :)

After both of my parents died I made memory quilts for each of my brothers and myself. I took the wedding pictures of each of us, my parents and both sets of grandparents to one of those places that puts pictures on tee shirts in our mall. I provided the fabric and the guy transfered the pictures on to the squares for me. I think he charged me $6 for each picture. That was in 1997.

After 9/11 I made three memory quilts for three children who had lost their father in the twin towers. Those I took photo transfer paper to a commercial copy place and they copied the family pictures I provided onto tranfers I then ironed on the squares for the quilts.

You have to be a little careful laundering the quilts but the transfers to last a long time. Most people don't launder a quilt very often.
