Advice on Which Janome Feet to buy
 

I have to sort out which I have and which I should purchase. A guy on eBay has a great selection, at great prices, with free shipping if I spend $100. I have seven feet that came with my Janome, he has things like a bias maker foot, a teflon roller foot (for silky fabrics), a gathering foot, etc.

Any advice?

I am new to sewing and quilting. I want to get better at making clothes and quilts. I'm sure I have the feet I need for quilting; I've purchased a walking foot, a "big foot" for FMQ, a darning foot (with the open view).

Hi...I have three Janomes and love them all...my favourite is my 6600P......regarding feet....whilst spending $100 on feet might sound like a great deal...I am not so sure it is.....firstly are they genuine Janome...I'm not sure I would buy generics...you will probably regret it.....also why not wait until you actually need a foot before you buy it?
I have had my machines some years now and do lots of types of sewing and found that the feet that came with it did just fine apart from the FMQ foot and only last week I bought the piping foot as I am going to re-upholster my suite....so in total I have spent about $32 in maybe 10 years....I just don't see the need to buy something that I might never use.....just my thoughts anyway !

I agree with the above poster. Wait and see what you might need. I have all the feet that are standard with a Janome DC2011 and have only used maybe 5 of them. I have a universal darning foot but haven't used it except to see if it fit.

I might be tempted to get the gathering foot if you plan to make clothes. It is one foot I am thinking of getting just because I make alot of clothes for my DD>

Janome snap on feet are not very expensive. They can be interchanged with Brother snap on feet. I think the most I paid for a Janome brand snap on foot was $10 at the dealers, that did not come with my machine. I buy the Brother feet at Walmart to have extras at a great price.

I used the roller foot for minky quite well. it really deends on what kind of sewing you do, there are all kind of speciaalty feet that are fun to play with. I haven't used many of mine but am taking classes to learn how to use all my different type of feet

I also have a Janome and I have purchased some specialty feet: Bias Binding foot, Ruffler, Stitch in the Ditch, FMQ foot , Curve Master Foot and walking foot. First off, the bias binding foot was/is a joke. I have tried and tried to get it to work and I just can't do it (maybe operator error?) I have yet to use the Ruffler foot. I used the stitch in the ditch foot for a while for sewing on my bindings until I got better at them and I really prefer to use my Walking foot anyway when doing bindings. I use my FMQ (or darning foot) sporadically as I don't really care for FMQ on my machine. I have yet to use the Curve Master but there is a Drunkards Path in my future so I think it was a worthwhile purchase for me. My 2nd purchase of the Walking Foot was the best investment. I say 2nd because I bought a generic one from Nancy's Notions and I made it about 1/3 of the way through straight line quilting a lap quilt and it literally fell to pieces as I was using it. I then purchased the Janome walking foot and wouldn't be without it. I buy my feet here as well as other items and it is ALWAYS free shipping, no matter how much you spend. If you don't have a Walking Foot, that would be my only recommendation for you.

I also have a Janome 6500, that came with many feet with the machine. I don't believe it would be to your advantage to buy extra feet at this time. Like others have said, wait to you really feel that you need them.

I purchased a Teflon foot, thought it would help me sew on the no-skit shelf liner...nope. So, I to am only out the money for one foot, in 9 years.

my machines (3) all Janomes came with many feet and I found the only extra ones I purchased were the rolled hem feet . There are several sizes. Other than that, I have not purchased any more in the 15 yrs I have owned these machines

I have an older Bernina, not a Janome, but the utility of various feet is similar. More than half of my sewing is clothing, so I have bought many presser feet over the years, some I use often. I think I use my edge stitching foot more than the regular foot. It is also used for stitch-in-the-ditch, but I usually use it with the needle to the right or left of the blade to make professional edge stitching on hems, collars, etc.

The grooved pintuck feet are useful, too. I use the one with three grooves for invisible zippers and piping.

If you plan on free motion quilting, you might try different feet for that, since opinions vary over which type is best.
