A few years ago I participated in a swap. I traded 4 1/2" squares with 11 other people from all over the country. We did this once a month for a year. It was wonderful - Christmas anytime you opened your mailbox.
The problem is that I have yet to find a way to make them into a quilt. I have squares of of all colors, designs, orientation (straight up/on diagonal),sizes : ), etc.
Of course, I've thought of attic windows, plain sashing,even storm at sea. Any other suggestions,please?

try quilterscache.com. Under 12 inch blocks she has numerous pattrns you could use 4" squares for. I did that with a bunch I sapped for. The churn dash is pretty done scrappy.

I do like stacked coins, you could have each make a __ inch stack.

I have a question, did you get just plain squares of fabric or actual pieced blocks?

They are pieced or appliqued blocks. Some people did, for example, Halloween related blocks for October, others simply did whatever they chose to so there is quite an assortment of of colors and designs. As I said before, some are squares, while other are on point.
There is a great deal of work that went into many of them, and I would like to try to make them into one quilt to remember the event. There are +/- 144 of them.
Any suggestions would be welcome.

I think your thought of Attic Windows would be perfect. :thumbup:

Since they are all different sizes, you could add sashing to them and recut to a standard size then do the attic windows. There is a book, "Setting Solutions" that has lots of ideas about setting blocks that are different sizes.

Thank you for your suggestion. I glanced at Sharon's book quickly, & was impressed by the reviews. I knew somebody on the Board could help!Do you ave either/both of her setting books? Do you prefer one over the other?

Debbie, I recently got a used copy (love amazon) of "Setting Solutions". I really like it a lot. There are no real 'quilt' patterns, but she gives lots of ideas for blocks that came out off sized, like those you may receive from an exchange, orphan blocks or sampler blocks. Much more creative than just adding a sashing. She also goes into selecting colors for sashing, as well as setting a weird number of blocks, like 7. I didn't know she had 2 books, now I'm going to have to look at the other one!
