Ok i am in a dilly of a pickle. I have my scrap quilt all done and it basted together ready to quilt. I had planned on doing a pin stripe every 6.5 inches ... the back is all black but with a little left over strips from the front. and the thread is pastels ... cause i specifically want the stitching to POP!
Here is the pickle. I was playing with some of the stitching patterns that are programed on the machine. I found this leafy/vine stitch, tried it, loved it! I wanted to incorporate it into the quilt. So i thought of doing alternating, pinstripe|vine|pinstripe|vine with the pinstripes in pastel and the vine in green thread. I just have never had a machine that could do these types of designs. I am nervous that it wouldnt look right.. or it would look tacky. Should i go with it or just stick with the pinstripes?

Any advice would be wonderful!

Did you try it out on a scrap sandwich (with batting) or just on fabric?

As long it will go through your machine easily, you regulate the speed it needs to travel, and the back looks good, then there should be no reason you can't do it.

I've used decorative stitches on QAYG blocks. But then all I was dealing with was an 8" square sandwich. Was very easy to control. That's not a 65"x65" quilt.

I did practice on a sandwich piece and they looked really cool. I was just nervous because ive just never used decorative stitching before.

I used thre dec. stitching on two lap size quilts. amd I loved it. I did mine by going side to side and up& down , outlining block size. It looked good on the front, but even bertter on the back, added some interest. On one, the backing was white fleese, and I used colored thread in the bottom, and it looked really pretty.

I've done that. Works great. If you like it on your sample you'll probably love it on the whole quilt. Go for it!

if you like how it looks go for it...lots of people use embroidery for their quilting- and do all sorts of creative things- no reason to hesitate- if you like it do it!!!

Start stitching where you were planning on putting it and go for a bit, look at both sides and see if you like it, if not you can take it out right away and just go with the stripe but if you like it, just keep on going with it.

Be sure and wind a ton of bobbins, those decorative stitches tend to use them up fast.
