Advice, Tips, & Hints for wholecloth on a grace king frame, using Juki 98
I want to create a wholecloth quilt using my Grace king frame and Juki machine. I cannot find any info on how to accomplish this task. Lots of info on old style quilt frames with rails where quilt is laid out, pinned, and created. Nothing on using a 4 roller frame.
All help, guidance and advice will be greatly appreciated. Steve |
Hi Steve, First I would decide which designs to use, then use an A4 page -or graph paper-to make a mini pattern, draw a 'box' to mark the size of each design and include all measurements. You should be able to use this to mark off all sections on your fabric on the frame. (make sure your fabric is larger than you want the finished quilt) and measure constantly. This is how I will go about making my wholecloth quilt - when I get around to doing it.

I looked again, through YouTube. Didn't really find what I was looking for, yet.
... Start at top, work left to right, top to bottom? ... Start in middle, work out to edges, going evenly from top then bottom then top, etc... Just curious on how to start, and which way to proceed. Thanks, Steve |
Assuming you have your top all marked out with the designs you want to quilt, I would just put it on the frame and work top to bottom. I usually go left to right on my first pass and come back going right to left on my second pass but it depends on what I am doing. If you view pictures of my post while I was quilting a Wholecloth style on my LA, perhaps this will help. Motifs that fit in my quilting space I did as much as I could then did back fill.
