All about Schmetz needles.
 

The other day someone posted about being told by their Machine store staff that Schmetz needles were no longer being made in Germany, but in India, and they felt the needles were less than stellar and wanted to be rid of them.

This bothered me, as I LOVE my Schmetz needles and always have. I buy them in bulk and my boxes still say Made in Germany. Anyway..I wrote to Schmetz and received this reply!

The president of SCHMETZ has responded to this question in the past. Here are the highlights of his response:
Needles are predominantly made now in India in a SCHMETZ-owned factory.
SCHMETZ opened their first factory in India in 1996.
SCHMETZ has been delivering needles from this factory for the past 15 years.
SCHMETZ owns 100% of the factory.
SCHMETZ has been using the same steel for over 50 years (made in Germany).
All SCHMETZ personnel are trained in Germany.
SCHMETZ has German engineers based in India, same as our quality assurance staff located in Germany.
SCHMETZ has been using the same technology for at least the past 20 years.
SCHMETZ ONLY changed the origin marks on the package recently from "Made in Germany" to "Made in India" because of international regulations.
SCHMETZ needle quality has not changed.

it is wrong to assume that because something is made in any particular country it is automatically either inferior or superior to that same thing made elsewhere.

hands-on use is the only reliable test.
