I've finished the embroidery and now need to decide how to put them into blocks. They're each about 6 inches square. I didn't use the ones suggested from the class because I want the finished quilt to be a size he can drag around and really play with. Any ideas? My daughter likes the "earth tone" colors, so I was thinking maybe batiks. I just don't know how to get a handle on it. Thanks.

I think your gut instinct is right. I love the earthy batiks for the sashing. :-)

cute as can be! And the blue looks very nice. Batik or not, I think dark blue

I agree on the blue. Lovely

I think the dark blue really makes your embroidery "POP"

I like the blue on the right the best. Makes the blocks pop.

To my eye, the style of your embroidered blocks (which are very nicely done) does not best blend with batiks, which are very nice too. Two nice folks who can be friends but getting married would be a mistake, you know?

You mention your daughter's tastes run to earth tones -- so probably she would prefer a look that's not primary brights. But what about a very fresh, sophisticated gray fabric? That would really set off the blocks as the star of the show, but also hit the modern/classic note. Or if her home is all about browns and beige, you could pick up on those shades with a sashing that again, lets the blocks be the focus.

I agree, the dark blue would look fabulous.

I'm also making a embroidery alphabet for my. Grandson, plan on setting them. In. A. Snowball block with 1" sashing.
