Amish country, PA

Next Saturday my hubby wants to go to Cabella's store in PA. Since the kids and I are usually bored there we made a compromise of first stopping by Intercorse and seeing what we can see. We will go to the Quilt Museum for sure, but I also heard that there are a few LQS and fabric stores not to be missed. I would appreciate all the suggestions you can give me. I am very excited to go since I have never been there before. I know I can find everything on the Internet but I appreciate experience from fellow quilters much more than on-line suggestions. Thank you!

There are at least three fabric stores in Intercourse.
I like to go to Zooks. They have good prices (you have to buy .5 yard or higher) and a lot of clearance. While you are in Intercourse you should go to the Intercourse Canning Company. They have some fun foods and it is across the street from Zooks.

I also like Zooks. If you stay on the road that they are located on, there are others to stop at also. Then this road will take you right out onto the highway, and for the life of me I cant remember if it is 30 or 31. dah

Check out the thread snips( scissors for cutting fishing line) on the fishing aisle in Cabella's. You might be able to find a few other things to go in your sewing room too. How about one of the over the pail caddies for sewing stuff? Little fishing lure compartment containers for bobbins?

Visit Zooks and the Old Country Store across the street and up a little and then if you drive to Bird in Hand, there is the Log Cabin store which is pretty nice too. There is Bitty Kinnas in Intercourse that is going out of business so I'm not sure they are still there.

Someday I will make it to Amish country. I would love to visit the LQS, but also see the barns and country stores.

Don't miss Kitchen Kettle Village right in Intercoarse. Lots of little shops and Amish food to buy.

I do go out there, but I do the "stumble upon it" travel route, but there are quite a few quilt stores and the most popular one just slipped my mind - I 'll repost if I find/remember it.

however, Cabella's is near Kutztown- another strong amish/menonite & farming community - you may want to do a google search for quilt stores in near Kutztown (Cabella's is actually in Hamburg- another google search.). just read about someone purchasing fabric at "Wooden Bridge Dry Goods in Kutztown- in the link I tried to post below.

this is taken from a saved thread from this website from spring 2011- you may want to google this thread:" going on a lancaster PA Shop Hop Saturday". I have it saved as:

I would google these quilt shops- for they may not be around or too far from your itinerary

*Dutchland quilt patch on rt 30 [not too far away from Intercourse]-website: www.dutchlandquilts.com
*old country quilt store on rte 340- up the street from Zooks
* Quilt and Fabric shack
