What to do about the smell that is left on your ironing board from pressing smelly antique blocks? I get paranoid that the leftover smell in the ironing board will be ironed into the next project. So I wash the ironing board cover with bleach, and clean the sole plate of the iron. Is this smart? Thanks!

I wash my ironing board cover often. (I use a lot of spray starch). I leave my antique blocks out for weeks, even months before I work with them. After they are quilted I wash them. It amazing how bright the fabrics are after all those years of storage. Love to see a photo of your blocks:)

I have once got a mildewy odor in my ironing board cover that would not wash out. Had to buy a new cover.
You could try covering the board with a folded sheet from your rag bag to press on -- it would be easier to wash.
