I'm especially interested in the history of quilts - I'd love to get a hold of a good book on quilts of the 1800's and how history effected the patterns etc. Not so much a "how-to" book as a historical one - do you know of anything like this?

I guess I am a bit interested in 1800 patterns as well..... and at the same time I'm fascinated by the more modern gorgeous kaleidoscope-type quilts - so I guess I don't know exactly what I want - something fun and interesting to have around for some escape winter reading I guess! I'm open for recommendations!

For the Kaleidoscope quilts, try One Block Wonders Encore, by Maxine Rosenthal and Joy Pelzmann they put an awesome twist on them :D:D:D

I wish I had the name but there was a GREAT book on the history of quilts coming over on the oregon trail.. and the book on the civil war quilts history is facinating both have pictures and the letters are true story tellers. Definetely see if you can check those out of the library. I recall BOTH were paperbacks.

Kansas City Star, pickledish.com, has some great books with the history from various of the quilts included.

I think the one of the Oregon Trail is by Sandra Dallas "The Quilt That Walked to Golden". It is a beautifully produced book with stories of women who made quilts, travelled overland to the west and raised families. There are lots of pictures, too.

Oooooo - "the quilt that walked to Golden" sounds right up my alley! Can somebody come do everything for me so I can curl up and read for a while? lol!

That is a good one it has lot of history in it.
