This stuff is called Bambi backing--it's not Minky, but it's very soft and is meant for baby quilts. I want to put it on the back of a baby quilt I'm working on. What happens when you quilt it? Do all the little threads get mashed down? And how will it affect the binding? I'm thinking I'll have to machine sew the binding on the back instead of the front. All I know is every time I touch this stuff I wind up with a mess on the floor! I'm a little scared to use it, but if it works it will be incredibly soft on the back of my quilt.

I haven't seen that before. It does look soft. Is the mess on the floor the fluff coming off?

If it's anything like Minkee, when you cut it, you get a lot of fuzz. Take it outside and shake the heck out of it. I backed one quilt with Minkee, but just did a sew and turn, then tied it.

i haven't used that particular fabric but when i used the minkee it was great to quilt, came out really neat. as for the binding, i machine stitched to the back and hand stitched the front, mainly because minkee is a polyester, and the base fabric is very hard to hand stitch. it will make a wonderful quilt (my granddaughter's call them the 'get-naked' quilts because they want to lay on them bare all the time :)
i would take it out side and give it a good shake though...sounds like it's just like minkee in that regard.

Thanks for the tip about taking it outside and giving it a good shake. I cut off a little piece of it and made a little quilt sandwich to see how it would work, and I think it will be fine. I'll post pics when I'm done!

It looks like a short pile fake fur stuff. I'd make darn sure that it will quit shedding before I'd give it to a baby. If the shedding is just coming from the edges where it was cut then I would just tie it. I'm still worried about the "fur flying", though.
