I've always used a steam iron but I hate the way I always catch the fabric in the holes of the iron and then end up ironing a wrinkle in my fabric or blocks. I saw the Continental dry iron - no steam, no holes and also no automatic off feature which I like. (I have my iron on a power strip and turn off my machine, iron and bendable bright light all at once when I'm done sewing.) Maybe spraying the fabric and using a dry iron is the way to go. Thoughts anyone?

Wow-you described exactly what I'm looking for! I never put water in my iron; I use a spray bottle. I really hate those holes on the bottom for the same reason--it catches. I'm going to Google this iron.

If you do get it, let me know where and how you like it--I really want this kind.

I made up the pattern myself. I saw a shadow quilt like that on Flickr and loved it. I used a charm pack of Robert Kaufman Kona solids - I think it was the "brights" colors. Then I just added a border to each charm using Kona white and Kona grey. If you would like, I can send you the actual measurements. It's a small quilt, maybe about 40" square.

For those who have asked, here are the dimensions for the blocks in my avatar. Please note that these are the final dimensions and DO NOT include the 1/4" seam allowance; that would need to be added to each piece. The border is 2" and the finished size is about 40" square.

I have the Continental iron. It works really, really well, and I use it for quilting all the time.

I am lucky to live by a bunch of "Job Lot" stores that carry this iron for only $12.00. I know most people have purchased theirs from the Vermont Country Store, where it costs around $30.00.

It is also at Home Depot though it is out of stock online at the moment. Thanks for the feedback. I think I'll try this iron.
