Listed on Columbus, Ohio Craigslist for only $60?
I wonder how much "rehabbing" it needs? It looks like it would sew through just about anything! http://columbus.craigslist.org/art/2154525378.html Anyone know anything about this machine? |
The little I know is that Consew is a good brand of industrial machine. Many home sewers use them for upholstery and thicker fabrics. May be a good buy even if you end putting some money into it. Google the name and see what you come up with. Looks like new they run over 1500 most places. Might ask how old it is and how many hours (roughly) that it has been used. They may or may not know but it is one question I would ask before buying.

I had a similar machine a while ago and found that its way too powerful and fast to use for quilting. they are great for upholstery or canvas stitching etc. You might want to know what the 'rehabbing' involves...... sounds like a good price but it may cost more to rehab than its worth?

looking at the pic I'm wondering if it has a 3 phase motor. If it does then you would have to change it to a 110 which the last time I did that was years ago and it cost me over $100 for the motor.

Consew--industrial machine, straight stitch, work horse and very very fast! Some use them successfully quilting. Made for heavy duty fabrics in a sewing factory. This price is about average for this type of machine and bench. There usually is a 'oil bath' in the table. That means there is standing oil in a tray that the machine sits in. Can't tell with this one.

Looks like more than I could handle, both power and space wize.

For sixty bucks I'd just grab it. Consews are excellent industrial machines and I'm pretty sure with the right needle and thread combination you can sew anything on one.

I have a consew 205rb1. Yes it is fast ; 2500 spm. It is equipped with a (servo) motor that has a dial to control the speed from the maximum to a really slow crawl. I believe the new motor sells for about $80 on ebay. |
