Anyone make their own appliques?
 

They are about $5.00 and I can't be paying that. I need to firgue out what is the best way to make them. I use them on burp cloths and such. Thanks for any tips in advance.:o

It seems to me that any stencil would work. Choose your fabric(s) for whatever shape you want, mark the stencil on the fabric and cut it out. I even use scrapbooking type stencils to get what I want. I would use those shapes for quilting inside squares or whatever. Fuse your cut-outs to whatever you are putting them on and zig-zag around the shapes.

I use coloring book pages. There are lots of them free online.

I have never bought an applique, always make my own. In fact I just made 4 bowling appliques right before I got on the board. I use clip art alot and coloring pages. Sometimes I will draw it myself.

I have never bought an applique- always make my own. I have used stencils from books, coloring books, copied pictures out of books, and off the internet. I use iron-on fusible- works great.

I use my sizzix for appliques but it is not a cheap machine

If you go in to Google 'Images', type in what you want, followed by 'line art', e.g. "dog line art", it will bring up loads of outline images, many of which are suitable for appliqué :thumbup:

I use cookie cutters, color books, etc.

Coloring books work really well, as does simple clipart from the internet

I like using coloring books. You can also find some really cute ones using stickers. In the Michael's stores they have wooden cutouts of zoo animals, etc. that would make really cute appliques.

I take them from anywhere! Google coloring pages, take pictures of anything you run into that you like (take a pattern on a piece of fabric for example); take a picture, load it onto your computer, print and make your own stencils/patterns to cut from. It's really simple. You can use your own colors. I do that a lot.

I print many shapes from the web and have also gotten quite a few wooden shapes from Joanns, Hobby Lobby and Michaels. They sometimes go on sale for 4 for $1.

Yes, I am using flannel on one side of the burp cloths and terry cloth on the reverse side. I will check our Walmart out and see what they have. We have three superWalmart in a town near by. Our local smaller walmarts don't carry much of anything in this department. Thanks for your help.

I make a lot of machine applique quilts and have used purchased patterns and also made a lot of my own from coloring books and on line images, even drawn a lot of my own. I just visited an aquarium in Tulsa and bought this coloring book. Can't wait to make a baby alphabet quilt using this as the basis.
