Anyone own a bernette 66? Need help

I do not have a manual. I have loopy threads on a straight stitch. Can anyone tell me what the 3 dials should be set on for a straight stitch. I simply cannot figure it out.
Thanks, Faye

Are you sure that the presser foot is in the "up" position when you thread? One of the most common causes of this problem is having the presser foot down when threading, in which case the upper thread does not seat properly between the tension discs.

Here is a link to the threading diagram:

There's a free operational manual available for download here:

Edit: Checked the free manual, and it looks like it is generic and not very helpful. You may want to purchase a manual specific to your machine. Usually they are available for sale online or on eBay, or you can order from your sewing machine dealership.

Thank you Prism99. I told my husband that someone on the board would help me. I appreciate your quick answer. Every manual I found online wanted to load a tool bar to my computer which I didn't want. Thanks again.

I just checked the manual and it was no help at all. There is nothing about the tension. I guess I will keep struggling on. I am using a new needle, same thread top and bottom (Superior brand), presser foot up to thread, threaded properly, bobbin inserted in correct way and thread guided properly. I know all of this stuff. Why the heck can't I figure this out? Frustration!!

Or try to google "Bernette 66 tension problem". Good luck.

All you have to do is uncheck the check box for the tool bar and download the manual.

I wish I had seen this earlier...I think the idea about resetting all the gauges at 4 and then move slightly from there. Also be sure to rethread upper thread with presser foot up. If the bobbin needs tightening or loosening, do in 1/4 turns of the screw. Try working with the upper thread first. And remember that the upper thread tension shows up on the bottom of the fabric and the bobbin tension on the top of the fabric. Seems backwards, doesn't it.
