I have poor posture and when I sat on one of these at the sewing store it really helped me sit up and relieve the strain on my back. However, the seat seems hard as a rock and I wonder if it is comfortable after 30min to an hour. TIA for the feedback.

I have a chair that looks similar, but I think has a bit more padding on the seat. I don't the manufacturer at the moment & I got it in the late 90's. I don't think my tail bone would like it if it had to sit on a harder surface.

i think the price is ridiculous!!! Often at furniture resell shops you can find an antique sewing chair for $40 or less, if that is the type of chair you are looking for.

I think this one has a bit more padding on seat. It looks more like the one I got in the late 90's. Mine has the raspberry fabric seat & back. It rolls just fine on thick carpeting. I paid $110.00 back then & that was dealers cost as I was teaching sewing in the dealer's shop. I'm glad I got it when I did as I don't think I would pay over $200.00

I don't have a chair ... I have a Swopper. I got mine at a local office furniture supply store. They are also online, probably at something like chairs4less or such. It is like sewing on a big balance ball only it won't deflate if hit by a pin. It is height and bounce adjustable. It makes me sit up properly.

IKEA has a chair that I'm drooling over - it has a slight slope downward. I can't sit in chairs that slope upwards - they're really hard on my back and very difficult to get out of.

I have a few friends who use a saddle chair, especially when they're machine quilting, and they LOVE it. I might have to drool over those, too.

I checked around different stores like Staples that sells different office chairs. I found one on sale that has many adjustments and my back and hips love it :D:D:D

I used a chair very much like that when I was learning to sew -- in the 50's that was the type of chair they provided with the cabinet. It WAS uncomfortable!!!! I use an office chair from Staples, too. They're ergonomic -- the one you're showing is NOT ergonomic (ergonomic means they'll adjust to fit YOU!)

I did medical transcription from home for years and invested in a very comfortable chair at that time. I bought two sewing chairs (NOT inexpensive by any means) and found they both became more uncomfortable the longer I sewed. Finally had a light bulb moment and took the arms off the office chair and use it! Wonderful! For me, I would go check office supply stores and spend my money there!

Try the "purple thing" to sit on. Sold in quilt shops and at target as a balance exerciser. It sure helps my back. If I knew about Target, I could have save $.

Just so you all know, I bought one of these at joann's with a coupon. It was right around $100. I put it together and pushed it up to my desk. The next saturday, I sat down to sew, scooted it up to the desk and the plastic caster broke off. I returned it immediately. I don't believe it is weight rated for anyone over 150 pounds!!(though I am way over that number)

This chair is so close to he old vintage ones, I would go find one at a shop and get it. I have one in storage and I see them on the net often for sale. They were sold with sewing machine cabinets and things back when.

Sorry to here about that, glad you got to take it back. Sounded like it might work for your back. Try and find an old one just like it, it won't have castors but there is no reason why you couldn't put them on and a lot cheaper than 100.00.
