Pam 06-06-2010 08:17 AM

WOW!!! Road trip anyone?

pam1966 06-06-2010 08:18 AM

Let's all go in together and buy it! The ONLY way I could do it!

Lostn51 06-06-2010 08:21 AM

Not even!!!

It would be nice to be able to walk into a stash that size but where would you keep it?

Billy

Looks as if they are selling things separately to me, not as a whole( altho'I'm sure they would like to do it that way). Would be nice to live closeby to take advantage of a closeout sale! You checking it out?

I know this store. The lady that owned it died suddenly. She was a town treasure and her shop is a town landmark. A master seamstress that stayed in her shop every day and sewed. Any part you needed for a vintage Singer she had it. Some of her notions were still in the original first packaging. I loved her store and if not busy she would tell me stories of her life.

I was reading the description and wondering where this was, then saw the pics and realized that I had been there before (after the original owner passed away). Sad to see they're going out of business now.

So - is the store being sold 'as is' OR are contents being sold bit by bit? It's hard to tell from the ad.

At $75,000 it should be an entire lot!!

Billy

quiltluvr 06-06-2010 10:57 AM

I could write a check---I gotta box full of 'em! :-P

On the serious side, sad to hear of her passing. I hope someone will see that ad and do her right by it.

I'll chip in . I want to quit my job anyways.

Lostn51 06-06-2010 11:37 AM

The thing that keeps playing in my head is can I buy the entire lot take what I want and flip it and come out ahead.

My wife and I have been talking about whether it would be worth while to make a cash offer and I am wondering how long would it take to unload it for a profit.

With this board---not very long!!

Katia 06-06-2010 11:57 AM

I would be on that in a hot minute, if I had the money.

  I dont think I will have to worry about whether I can do it or not. I am not tying that much money up into anything right now I dont care how good of a deal it is!!!

Especially after spending what I did on the bike I am getting built for me.

But its nice to dream out loud!!

Billy

Pam 06-06-2010 12:08 PM

Let's face it, if you kept lots, it would take longer to make a profit! Supply and demand, eyes bigger than tummy, ect! I would love to do it, but I already have some stuff for sale.

Candace 06-06-2010 01:03 PM

Or how about this one? http://sfbay.craigslist.org/nby/bfs/1768231257.html

nwm50 06-06-2010 01:35 PM

Go for it! Make an offer, im sure they will work with you. Maybe the family has no interest in taking over the store and will negotiate?

sewjoyce 06-06-2010 04:37 PM

Maybe we should all get together and plan a road trip....

BellaBoo 06-06-2010 04:42 PM

I doubt it's the store building or land, it's too valuable a property where it's at to sell for $75,000. Smack dab in the middle of town right in the town square. I would think so anyway. The shop is closed every time I go by there so I guess it's buy all or nothing.

mountain deb 06-07-2010 03:59 AM

I hope that is wholesale price.............

Up4BigChal 06-07-2010 04:01 AM

Really "Who can sew on a Car Anyway"!!

FERSID 06-08-2010 05:48 AM

I purchased a very large lot (somewhere around 10,000 metres of designer fabrics and a few bolts of lace trims from a well known Canadian Fashion Designer 2-1/2 years ago for a VERY good price.

She was clearing some of her inventory to make way for the incoming new fabric trends - some of the fabrics were FULL unused rolls - in excess of 50 meters per roll.

2 months of intensive taking of photos, composing descriptions and determining my pricing, I eventually managed to get them all listed in my EBay Store.

It took me about 1-1/2 years to sell just about all - I think I only have about 120 metres left from the lot and I managed to make back my initial cash outlay and have realized a comfortable profit.

Was it worth the time and effort? Possibly but in hindsight, I don't think I will do it again as it took far more of my time and energy than I had expected and that of course took away from too much time from my other interests.

You would likely have far more success in selling quilting fabrics in a shorter time period than the designer fabrics I ventured with (these fabrics were for those interested in sewing their own garments).

You may want to seriously look at how much time and energy to want to put into taking on such an endevour but if you do and you're lucky, you could probably turn a good profit.

Good luck and hopefully, you'll post some in the forum - from the photos, there appears to be some really nice fabrics, etc.

I am envious........... I have always wanted to own a quilt shop..... Guess it's not in the cards for me - should you decide to buy I wish you all the best. Wish I was closer.
Good luck and keep us posted.

It is so difficult when a shop owner dies. Who will run the shop... Who will continue the ordering... Other questins if trying to make a go of it after the 'heart' of the store is gone.

We have a store in the area that lost its 'heart' about two years ago. I am grateful the store is still there, but I sometimes wonder how long the family will keep it going.

I hope someone is able to make a decent offer to the family involved in the store listed here.

Lostn51 06-08-2010 06:05 AM

Trust me i am not going to buy it, although it is very tempting....

I would just end up keep all of the quilting material and then I would have issues with storing them. Thats why I would not even consider doing it right now.

Billy

sahm4605 06-08-2010 06:37 AM

well you are getting a bike. get rid of cars and store around the house. you could sell off all but the quilting stuff that you liked. It would be fun. You could have a day next year that everyone from the board can come and buy from your house. sure that lots of us in your area would love to take a trip to see your stash.

squeakie 06-08-2010 11:08 AM

oh to be rich instead of just beautiful :P

granniebj 06-08-2010 11:12 AM

Wow! Wouldn't that be something! Sad to see a place like that close down! Must be awful for the family!

dljennings 06-08-2010 03:01 PM

where is my winning lottery ticket when i really need it??

QuiltingGrannie 06-08-2010 03:23 PM

OHHHHHHHH , if I only had the money!
I'd be on it in a heart beat - half a heart beat!
Wondering if that is a good price for it all....????
I'd need an inventory list.
Sorry - business woman in me coming out.
I do have two more days off work, could get down there......

Oh, yeah - I have no money.

I can dream.
