Had to look it up :) One Piece at a Time is Erin Russek: http://www.erinrussek.typepad.com/
She's got a very good tutorial for the starch method of preparing applique pieces that I always send people to: http://erinrussek.typepad.com/one-pi...lique-lessons/ There are a couple of sections about starching, but the whole page is packed full of good info. :) |
I really enjoy all the info shared here
.I love applique or any hand work I am enjoying reverse applique and i am doing some machine work but im new to that trying raw edge fused by Mkenna Ryan to get the hang of free motion raw edge , I have to say thank goodness i am only doing these to keep myself as they are not so great but are getting better with practice. I have just got the book Affairs of the heart after seeing the stunning blocks elsewhere on this site and it will be me first all over applique quilt . |
I would love to be in this club. My favorite quilting is applique, unfortunately, I am not good at it. Eager to learn.

I'm working on Erin's middle block from "My Tweets" and used her starch method for the first time. I'm going to use it as a wallhanging. I'm trying to improve my skills so there are too many things I want to try before I commit to a whole quilt. I may end up with a "scrappy" applique quilt some day with all my various blocks. I'm doing some from the book, I think it is called hop to it. Anyway, I've come a long way in technique from my first block last year.

Looks like there are lots of applique enthusiasts here. Room for another? Has anyone watched Sharon Schamber's videos? She has a needle turn applique technique that she teaches. I've been practicing and found it helpful. Here's her youtube link.

I do not have the pattern for the middle block, I did not see it when I down loaded the others I thought maybe that block was for this month. May I have the thread to it please? castusmomma.

Erin sells her various middle blocks in the store on her website. There is an icon on the left for the store. It is pink and says "Visit My Shop".

To Poly and Suz....Thank you both for your excellent instructional help to my quandry about sharp points in my hand-turned applique. I've copied both and put it into my Tips file. I'm very grateful and am looking forward now to my next applique project. :) I've been looking for those straw needles but I guess I will have to order them on line.

Hey everone! I sat here this past week end and read all of your notes and looked at all the pictures. I also went to "One piece at a time " quilt site she does a BOM that is free I say lets all do it with her this next year. She shows you how to get around the small circles and points. She also has a club on yahoo. I down loaded her blocks from this past year. Now I only need to find the fabric I want to use, which I think I want to do with batiks. Check it out and let me know what you all think.
Suz: I really like all the input you give and I find everything you write to be very helpful to me. Almost as good as having you here. |
how can i mark this discussion so i can go strait to it instead of having to go through heaps of pages to find it
