Hi! I would like to ask for your recommendations on the type of fusible web I should purchase to use for applique? There are many types out there and I am interested in doing some fusible applique quilt wall hangings, placemats, etc. and wondered if there is sort of a "one size fits all" I could purchase? Also, I am working on a Dresden plate quilt for my bed and wondered what your thoughts were on should I use a fusible on the circles or just pin and applique with a blanket stitch only. I have been reading different books and web sites and seems that you can do either or. As this is going on my bed and will be laundered I want to make sure I do the right thing. I am still pretty new at quilting and eager to learn. Right now i am confused :roll: on this one. Thank you so much for your opinions! I really am enjoying the quilting board! I feel like I am learning so much!

I use Steam n Seam on all my applique now. See my Avatar quilt.

I'n not sure which is better since I do mainly hand applique, but on two projects I did for wall hangings I did use the Steam an Seam. Worked really good. I just like to hand sew. :)

I have used freezer paper a few times then must cut the back of the fabric I applied the applique piece to - to remove the freezer paper. Does the Steam n Seam stay with the quilt?

Yes it did stay in the quilt - you can machine stitch around it or leave as a raw edge applique. I just prefer not to use it unless I need to.

I use Steam a Seam but have now changed to Misty Fuse and I really like it.

My preference is heat'n bond lite for fusible appliqué. Another suggestion for your dresden plate, you could use a yoyo centre & machine blind stitch it in place.

I love Shades Soft Fuse for fusible web projects. It is very light weight and not bulky, adheres well, and the fusible glue does not separate from the paper. Haven't found it locally but a Google search will get you to many places that carry it. Be sure to show us the finished projects!

heat and bond lite or wonder under from pellon both work well, don't gum up your needles, hold well on many different fabrics, are inexpensive and readily available, stay pliable, don't get all hard or stiff in the finished quilt. misty fuse is good for an interfacing but it is different from paper backed fusable.
