Brain dead today... I am making a baby quilt which has sheep on it I don't want to blanket stitch the sheep or machine applique can I sew the sheep to a piece of backing fabric, slit the back turn in the right way then hand stitch onto the quilt ??
I hate these days when the brain doesn't work very well....

Yes, you can do it that way. I've seen instructions from Eleanor Burns using this method.

Sounds like it will be a cute baby quilt.

sure, make them any way you want...your project; make them any way you want, no one here is going to tell you you can not do it the way you want.

I think that is a great idea. I can't do any hand work but I have done this with the buttonhole stitch on my machine. It turned out pretty darn good.

Thank you for your replies. I just wanted to give it a bit of dimension .Thinking about putting polyester or cotton batting in the middle so it puffs out a bit more ...Will experiment.

Don't forget pictures when you have one completed.

Layer your fabrics and the batting, trim the batting very closely to the stitching before turning :D:D:D

You can also do the head, legs and tail separate, and then lay the batting filled body on top.
