I picked up a book at our last Guild Meeting and it's about creating quilts from the center out. You start with a center block of whatever.............then just start adding and piecing with no pattern or plan. It's a little intimidating at first but when you get past the first few pieces, its a lot of fun..............I have one started with a appliqued African Tribal woman on a piece of muslin and am adding related "African style prints" It definitely takes you out of the "box" The free form cutting (no rulers) is a lot of fun as well!

Wouldn't it be fun to have a group pf friends, a pile of fabrics, a littl wine (???) and just start playing? Imagine what you would come up with!
|
Sounds like fun! I might need the wine, as I tend toward the 'perfectionist' bent - - I hope you share pics when you finish your quilt.

My sewing buddy is making her crazy quilt doing that with a focus fabric and sewings others around it.
Turning out great. Hope to see a pic of yours soon. |

Oh, what fun! A liberating project like this can be very good for the quilting soul.
