I was just wondering if people on the board use material other than cotton, flannel and fleece. A wonderful lady at work today gave me a whole bunch of assorted fabric I am really not sure what I will do with alot of it or even what kind it is. I have not had a chance to really go thru all of it yet.. But Maybe I can put some on the PIF section. Do you think people would even want it ? Or should I just take what I dont want to Salvation Army or Good will ?

Assorted fab makes great quilts for nursing homes, picnic blankets ECt.

There are a lot of quilters that make charity quilts on this board so I would post a picture of what you don't want and post it for free. You could ask for shipping charges if you wanted. Good Luck....

There are lots of uses for random fabric! Let us know what you have and I'm sure someone will think you have goodies.

I, personally have never used anything but 100% cotton, even for charity quilts. The results of 100% cotton go together beautifully, look professional, and can be washed by the recipient. People used to give me a lot of fabric, and I spent many hours on my livingroom floor sorting usable and unusable. One tip: Sometimes you just can't tell whether a piece of fabric is cotton, polyester, or a combination. Go to your sink, cut off a small corner and set it on fire. If there's any polyester in it the burned corner will be melted and hard. If 100% cotton the result will be soft ash.

as long as the fabric can all be laundered together it can be used together- how ever you wash your quilts- is how the fabric needs to wash/dry-so start with pre-washing all of it- what comes out ok can be used in your quilt-
and the fabric that does not take to washing/drying so well could always be reserved for wallhangings- projects that are not going to be put into a washer/dryer
