I am new to quilting and found this very interesting fabric called Australian aboriginal fabric by M&S Textiles that I would like to use in quilt. Has anyone used products by M&S previously and is it a good product? Thank you

Welcome to the board and greetings from Colorado!
If you do not want to pay shipping from AU, try this site http://www.intfab.com/index.html I have ordered from them for years. Great service and unusual fabrics. Under the categories section is "Australia" and there are some aboriginal prints, and lots of other countries too- |

It's beautiful fabric and has a great feel. It's very easy to work with, and blends wonderfully with batiks.
It used to be a bit hard to get in the US - only at big shows at some specialty vendors. A vendor called Leo99 was one of the first to introduce it about a decade ago. Over the last few years it's been readily available at a few shops in the US. eQuilter sometimes gets batches in (I don't see any now, though). But here's a great selection at some of my favorite shops: http://www.cottonclub.com/cgi-bin/St...oduct=Imp_aust http://www.fabricshack.com/cgi-bin/S...#mstextiles100 http://www.mountainviewquiltshoppe.c...pid=1#10014040 Prices are the same as other LQS cottons. Sometimes a shop will put a premium on them. Use them in the quilts or any sewing - I recommend them without hesitation. The prints are gorgeous. eta: for some reason when I went to check the links they weren't clicking through to the sites. Maybe they're updating or the servers are someplace where the electricity went out due to the storm. But they "should" be good links. |
Hi yes I can guarantee this fabric as I am using the same one at the moment...Making a bag for my girlfriend in Balstrop,Texas USA.
And have used it a lot in other things when finished it is awesome....use with confidence. ;) :-D |

Yes and it is very nice. Some of it is a little stiff but it washes up nice and the colors stay. I made a snake quitl out of it for my son.

Thank you all for the information, advice and links. I appreciate you.

It is a beautiful quilt and gives me confidence to use the fabric.

I just received some yardages from Canton Village. They feel great and the price was great. They were on sale at $7.95 per yard and the one cut I measured was generous (close to 38 inches). I am looking forward to using them.

We've carried some in the past, and we found it to be very high quality, with a great hand and high quality printing and finishing.
Each design is unique, and they have a wide variety of aboriginal designers doing the original designs. The company has been expanding its distribution in the US, so pricing is comparable to other high-quality quilting fabrics and available from a growing number of outlets. You may have to hunt around for the prints you want, since shops and online stores tend to only carry a few prints. |
oh Anna that is lovely. I was just going through all my Aussie prints last night!
|
Anna, your quilt is stunning! Was that your own design?

My online store has the largest selection of M&S Textiles fabrics. Yardage and FQ collections.

I have some fat quarters from last years Xmas exchange and still haven`t used it...it really is very very nice.....I`im waiting for a special project to use them.....will know when i find it......

Great fabric - be glad you don't have to buy your Aboriginal fabric directly from Australia --- their prices are higher and they use the metric measuring system, plus the exchange price, shipping...yikes! I get Australian fabric when I'm there and the exchange rate is favorable. Otherwise, I buy mine from Fabric Depot in Portland. I can get into SERIOUS trouble shopping there -- picture a fabric store the size of Costco...... : )

Welcome to the board from the UK.
I purchase from Australia and New Zealand frequently as they have some unusual fabrics. They are very quick in delivery. Not sure about the M&S textiles but I am positive I must have used it and had no problems. |
