Autograph quilt ideas

I have a bride that would like to have a quilt to use at her wedding reception for guests to sign and leave their well wishes to the couple. I had done one like this many years ago so just checking for types of pens and any ideas any of you might have done or seen. She is wanting it to have an assortment of beige and light yellow squares. Thanks

I bought some permanent fabric markers that do really well. They don't run and should be good for that.

Two suggestions: 1.) Pre-wash your fabrics without adding any fabric softener. This removes any sizing on the fabric and the markers will penetrate the fibers of the fabric better. (I'm assuming the fabric is 100% cotton. Natural fibers dye better.) 2.) Just have the blocks available for signing, not a finished quilt. That way, if they mess up when signing or write something unacceptable, it is not already a part of the quilt.

We had blocks available for guest to sign at my daughter's wedding last year, made with scraps from clothes I had made for her as a child. It was truly a memory quilt for them!

tape the blocks to paper with masking tape or blue painters tape to allow for seam allowance . Fine tip fabric markers and Pigma pins are good also.

Iron the prewashed blocks to freezer paper. It will be easier for guests to write on if the blocks are stabilized. Use a washable marker to mark seam allowance so writing won't be cut off. Micron pens work well.

The new Sharpie fabric markers work really well too! We just finished one for a girl at church and had the whole church sign it for her- turned out great!
