Hi gals. I am getting my Bernina this week (just not today as planned). While looking for commentary on the QE 440, I found one or two who said that the bernina automatic threader doesn't work very well. This is a MUST HAVE function for me due to deteriorating vision. Is it likely that these posters just had trouble with their machines or have you had problems with the auto threader. Thanks!

I love this. It takes a little practice at first, but read the directions carefully and try it. I use it all the time. Much easier than trying to thread it by hand!!!

I had to have someone to show me how to use mine but after that I had no problems. Mine is great and works very easy after learning the trick to using it.

I have one on my Bernina that is now 8 yrs old and I hardly use it as it is awkward. They also break very easily so be careful and press straight down. This was not a great design for Bernina and I am sure they have improved on them. It will definitely assist you after a bit of practice.

My husband makes it look so easy.....I've had many customer's who have had a hard time getting it. They do work! They do work well! Now....they are delicate, and can get out of whack....However its more common that a bent needle is the problem....not a bad needle threader. I'm sure you can get it.....There is also a great magnifier lens attachment that is available for the 440. It comes with 3 different power lenses.....and attaches to the machine.....might be a good investment....you don't want to get stuck at night trying to finish a project and you suddenly can't get the needle threader to cooperate with your fingers! Good Luck!

Love mine! Take it easy first couple of times and it'll be fine.

I get frustrated with the one on my Janome also. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't, grrrrrrr

It took me awhile to figure out how to consistently get it to thread the needle. Make sure the needle is all the way up and the thread is in both sides of the threader. It is hard to explain. If you can't do it, I will try and take pictures. But once I did figure it out, I love it. Now I don't have to call my son to come and thread my needle.

I can't get the one on my Janome to work either...I just use saliva on the needle and it sucks the thread through!

Using the needle threader on my Bernina 440 QE did take a bit of time to get used to. You MUST make sure to press the needle up/down button to make sure the needle is in the right(all the way up) postion to thread or you will break your threader. Then my LQS owner taught us to push down on the left hand finger tab, make the number 4 with the thread from the post and passed the needle and the threader will do it's thing. Make sure you have good support from your shop to learn how to use your new machine.

I was having problems it seems that it was operator problems not the threader itself. It does take practice.

Love my automatic threader on my QE 440. Have had it about a month and it is a little tricky at first but once you get the hang of it your eyes will thank you for it.

What Pennylane said: just takes a little getting used to and you will love it.

is a good tool. but i have had to replace mine 3 times as i believe my walking foot interferes and clips the wire on it.
