I am going to look at this featherweight tomorrow night.
They wanted $250 but said I could have it for $200. Should I buy it?

Cyn 08-02-2011 06:20 PM

I would :)

erstan947 08-02-2011 06:23 PM

I paid more than that for mine and it did not have the case and attachments.

Greenheron 08-02-2011 06:24 PM

Will you be allowed to test drive her? Do you need her? Got the $$$? Then go for it.

fabric_fancy 08-02-2011 06:36 PM

i'd be all over that price

JaneK 08-02-2011 06:36 PM

Make sure it has the bobbin case, cords and foot pedal and try to sew with it, if possible. It is a good price, I think. There's not too much that can go wrong with these fine little machines so if it's all there, I think you can get it to work well for you.

luvstitches 08-02-2011 06:36 PM

I would jump on it!!!!

I'm going to take along fabric and thread. I don't need it but I have never actually seen one and every one on the board thinks they are great. I can afford to buy it. I hope it turns out to be as good as it looks. Thanks for your comments.

Sounds pretty fair and you have the funds. Looks like the manual and attachments are in the box. That is something to check too. They are darling machines. I have my grandma's and treasure it.

MoMiMi 08-02-2011 06:53 PM

I would buy it in a heartbeat. Looks in good condition.

blueangel 08-02-2011 07:28 PM

as long as the wiring is good/sound, no cracks, splits, etc. and the bobbin housing is there...it should be great for $200!

I agree, paid more than that for each of mine! Always handy, will outlast my fancy-schmancy computerized machines for sure, and will make lovely keepsakes for my children. Plus FUN, cute, dependable, and make perfect stitches.

redpurselady 08-03-2011 08:00 AM

I would - she sure is purty!

jljack 08-03-2011 10:35 AM

Yes...even if it feels "stiff", it is an easy fix, so YES!! $200 is a great price.

I hate to be an enabler, but - YES! Buy it. There are a lot of great things about featherweights.

Let us know what you decide...

I'm going to look at it tonight. I found out the guy buys storage units that people rent and never come back for and he sells what he finds in them.

Quilt Mom 08-04-2011 11:48 AM

So... Did you buy it?

Yes,yes, yes, and it's in unbelievably good condition. It has all the accessories with it including 5 bobbins and the case.
Every thing on it looks original, cords and belts. The finish is in wonderful shape, including the decals. I want to read the manual, clean it a little bit and oil it. The woman who owned it died at 93 years. She probably was the only owner. I found her name in the manual, so I named her Ruth , after her owner. Her manufacture date is 2 days after I was born. We were ment to be together.

She looks so good my husband thinks I should have her put in a clear plastic case and displayed in the livingroom. Of course you can guess what I think of that idea.

How wonderful - certainly seems Ruth was meant to be yours. Congratulations - you will enjoy sewing with Ruth. FWs are so cute and so much fun to sew on.

charismah 08-04-2011 01:01 PM

Oh Good...I am so glad it is a happy ending! Ruth found a home! That is a great price for the condition you described. I actually spent 300$ on mine but it is a centennial model in pristine condition...not a scratch on her...all accessories and case as well..Her name is "Prissy"

Quilt Mom 08-05-2011 03:28 AM

Hurrah! Another vintage machine will be loved and cared for. Ruth will serve you well, and I'll bet you enjoy her a lot!
