I need to make about 2 or 3 baby blankets because a friend of mine is going to peru to do service! I asked her, and she said about 36 by 45 would be good, and if I just have a top and like a flannel bottom tied that it would be good. So, I'm thinking scrap, and something I can whip out, I have to have it done by Wedsenday!

That's what I do when I make quilts for the shelter.
I call them sandwich quilts.
1 yard for the top
1 yard for the batting
1 yard for the bottom
Sew around the outer edge and turn right side out.
Top stitch the edge .
Then tack it in several places with embroidery thread.

That could be so cute. I know in our OB dept. at the hospital they sometime get donated quilts for the babies and this is how they are made. With the right fabric for the top they can be so cute. Good idea.

To make them a little lighter weight, leave out the batting and make as dreamer described above :wink:

You can also buy panels for babies that you can fix the same way and they are as cute as they can be. Or you can buy pre-quilted fabric and then just bind all the way around.

Without the middle layer they would be lighter weight is all.
If you want them warmer add the batting.

Sometimes I use plain white flannel in place of batting to add just a touch of extra weight.

It is fall in Peru right now, or almost. Depending on which area of the country, it is going to be mighty warm down there. Even during the "cold" season it can still be very humid with lots of rain. I wouldn't put batting in, maybe an extra layer of thin flannel. But, just a thin cotton top with a light flannel backing would work.

I make quilts with a charity group and we put ours together the exact same way as dreamer. It saves a TON of time, just in omitting the binding!
