baby quilt
 

I am making a baby quilt it measures 48"x 59" is this way too big for a baby quilt?? I am putting flannel on the back and wondering about batting think I will use warm and natural will it be way too warm???

I just made a baby quilt that was about that size, I did not think it was to big at all. Warm and natural should be fine,

I think the size is great. I always like my baby to have an oversized blanket so if I went to visit someone I could place it on the floor like a play mat as well. As for the batting that depends on where the baby will live and when it will be born.

I think the size is fine, but I would use a different batting that drapes more softly -- maybe Hobbs 80/20. My favorite for baby quilts is Mountain Mist Blue Ribbon 100% cotton because it gets softer with every washing. However, this is a very old-fashioned batting that requires quilting every 2 inches or so and is flatter and thinner than many modern quilters expect. Warm and Natural has a pretty stiff drape, and this shows up more in a smaller quilt. I have one baby quilt that has been sitting on the shelf waiting for me to un-baste it from Warm and Natural.

I am finishing up a baby quilt the exact size. I like it cause its a little larger than a crib quilt. I just used the ordinary batting I always use.

I love the way that they warm and natural with flannel feels. My baby blankets over the years have held up great with that combination. Plus I tend to always make my baby blankets kind of large; more like toddler blankets.

It is too large and heavy for a premie, but otherwise its great. The baby rapidly becomes a toddler and the larger size is an advantage. Early last year, I gave a toddler who was facing major surguries a choice of my already available quilts. She selected the twin. Not wildly convenient for washing, but soothing to her.

I usually make my baby quilts 42x54 because my Thermore comes in that size.

I just about always make them that size and use warm and natural batting.

I think babies will use a lot of sizes, however, I like a newborn in a 36x36 or less so you can actually be holding the baby and not a big wadding of blanket too.

The Dream batting products have the best drape, in my opinion. I believe the crib size is 45x60.
