Babylock sashiko machine
 

I'm thinking about getting one of these machines and would like to hear from anyone that has one or has used one. Thanks for any info.

I don't have one but I have a friend who bought one. She had nothing but trouble with hers.

I would check yahoo groups to see if there is a sashiko group listed.

Been watching my friend trying to work on hers and it is very frustrating. She had a difficult time threading the darn thing and then it would stitch for a few inches and break the thread. So she had to go in and re thread the machine and try again. If this were my machine it would be at the bottom of the river by now. I would not invest the money to be aggravated by this thing.

For a one trick pony I thought Babylock dropped the ball, pricing it so high. Maybe they just did us all a favor. I really liked some of the effects, but you couldn't use it on a quilt - the backside is all thready - not for me! And now to hear what a pain it is......

Here are some other threads that might give you some info. There were more I got using the search function upper right, so you might try that too.

If you want to incorporate Sashiko designs - there are several nice embroidery disks. Otherwise, if you have the patience, set a sewing machine to the triple bean stitch and use that for an outline. I've used it for simple border designs and have had quilters ask me how I got the effect. There are books for doing "straight line" designs with a walking foot which also contain how-tos for curves.

I have a pattern for making a sweatshirt quilt. I've used continuous border designs on the sleeves with the bean (triple straight) stitch. That's what one quilter at a show saw.

I guess I'm not the only one with the thread breakage problem. I have tried everything. It seems to be a tension thing when my thread breaks. I have owned this machine for 19 months and used it maybe 10 hours and its been in the box since last Christmas. I had a babylock dealer trouble shoot it and was told not to waste my money shipping it back to the company that it was just a fussy machine and to deal with it. I also own a babylock professional quilter and will not be buying anymore babylock machines. I am thinking about trading the sashiko in on something else. Maybe a bertina!

I have a friend with one. she quilted a runner for me with it. it came out great, but she said she got bored of just a sashiko stitch. also couldn't get to places she could with a LA, she now uses her LA a lot.

For the price, I wanted a machine that would do more.
