hello everyone I hope that in doing this right i need to know the size of most baby quilts.
thanks frenchrose |
You will get many different answers. I ususally make mine about 40" by whatever length it will need to be for the pattern I choose. This way I don't have to piece the back.

To cover a crib size mattress I make mine 45 X 60 or close to that, Try not to have to piece the back so end product is close to 45 wide.
|
the one I am making now is 48" square

I rarely make a baby quilt bigger than a yard wide, and not much longer.
The reason being - - I observed, raising my babies, that when they got to be about two years old, they wanted something that they used to have when they were "babies". Big blankets were too hard for them to carry around by themselves, and smaller ones fared better from the constant loving. <wave> And, it packs much better if they really get attached to it and have to take it with them to grandma's ... |
I make mine between 54"x54" and 62"x62", so that the child will be able to use it more than 1 yr. All that time, love and money goes into it, so, I figure they might as well get lots of use from it.

I make mine the width of the fabric by 40 inches. I like a big quilt tht will cover the car seat or a sleeping doll in it's crib.

Me too 40", usually square.
