LovinMySoldier 03-01-2011 10:40 PM

I had to lay my little buddy down to rest tonight :( Many of you hate your seam ripper but I loved the little guy. We spent nearly every night together. And tonight I snapped his head off :( He was always there for me. We worked diligently on every project together. Hand in hand. I sewed and then he ripped away. I am going to miss his little candy red body :( What a good helper he was. And what makes it even worse is that I cannot go any further on my bag I am working on tonight until I go shopping tomorrow to get a new friend. Hopefully I can find a new friend tomorrow! Maybe I wont have to use him as much as I used my old buddy!

luvTooQuilt 03-01-2011 10:51 PM

Awee. Rip lil buddy! Rest easy knowing you did your best at every rip..

Hope you find another one.

trif 03-01-2011 11:20 PM

Sadness, you have lost a good friend, goodbye little buddy......
Now, as we all know, life must go on, however I suggest you get at least two new "little buddies", this way they have each other to help with the unsewing :)

BETTY62 03-01-2011 11:23 PM

How sad. I also have a best buddy named seam ripper. We often hang out day and night.

Buy two! I use both of mine (but not simultaneously-yet).
Bet you buy more than a new best friend!

Lilrain 03-02-2011 01:22 AM

So sorry, R.I.P Red Ripper. I would suggest one of the better Clover brand ones. I love mine. Sharp and a smaller tip

Granna of 5 03-02-2011 01:55 AM

I have the Gingher and he makes fast ripping. We have a understanding I sew he rips.

plainpat 03-02-2011 02:42 AM

I also need a new helper. Mine is still in one piece, but has lost his sharpness. He's a Sr, so to be expected.Where do you find the diff brand buddies? We only have Joanns & Hobby Lobby.

  I am so sorry for your loss and the fact that he was your best friend. My Mr. Seam Ripper is not my best friend. He comes out to play way too often and I usually say too many bad words when he is there.

LovinMySoldier 03-02-2011 08:50 AM

Grace Mitchell: Beautiful Quilt!

I am off today to find a new friend. Any suggestions on what one to buy? :)

Lois Wymer 03-02-2011 08:54 AM

I have had a similar tragedy in my life. After I got over the initial shock, I purchased no fewer than 4 seam rippers so I would never have to go through that again. So far so good.

That is so funny because this is what happened to me too. Unfortunately, my new ones aren't as friendly as my old one.

debbieumphress 03-02-2011 09:30 AM

I have two Clovis rippers and love them. Sharp, sharp. They come in cream so if you want another red, have to look at others. You are so creative..cute story. My ripper is called "the reverser". LOL The other one is Froggie because he is always ripping...rippit, rippit.....

jljack 03-02-2011 09:33 AM

How cute!! :-) We have 3 Rippers at our house...one is mine, one is DH's, and one lives on the quilting machine frame. I guess you could say we have Triplet Rippers!! LOL

Grace Mitchell 03-02-2011 11:41 AM

I got one at Joann's - don't remember the brand, but it has a nice fat handle on it so it feels good while using it.

I am so sorry for your loss. I know my little buddy named Rip and I are very intimate in our sewing projects. I would not be able to do a thing with out him. May you find another that will be just as worthy of your projects. JoAnn

justlooking 03-03-2011 04:03 AM

I always buy two, so I'm never without.

karenpatrick 03-03-2011 04:07 AM

I know how you feel. Somedays I feel like they are my best friends. I have 3 of them in different sizes. And I use all 3. Not at the same time...yet.

That was probably Fons and Porter Ergonomically designed seam ripper. Red handle or whatever you want to call it. I have had mine for about four years now. Have two more (grocery store variety) stashed away also, one for my sewing bag, one for extra. Mine's name is Jack!!!!!!! Edie

gcathie 03-03-2011 05:26 AM

so sorry for your loss I have 4 I keep one in each place I would use one...that way I don't have to keep hunting for my little buddie.....I got mine from Joann's and I'm not sure the name but they are purple and have a rubber bottom that erases your mistakes after you pick....much quicker...good luck choosing your friend

Janiemae 03-03-2011 05:42 AM

Haha....I got a laugh out of that! I have about four of them!

bet you do too! Let us know what else you get at the quilt shop!

mimisharon 03-03-2011 06:17 AM

I feel your pain, I could not get through a day without my buddies. I have one on my nightstand, he's Bluie. One at each of my sewing machines, and one in the end table basket at 'my chair'. Oh and there's Travel Buddy, always in my travel bag for projects on the road.

There's great ones and not so great ones. I keep multiples because I 'unsew'...um...in every area I'm at. I almost said a lot, but that phrase hurts my eyes and fingers. Yep, cause it's true. Never met a seam I didn't feel could be unsewn and sewn again. I find the worst offender seams to be the purse or elastic seams, but every now and then there's the wayward scant 1/4. Why don't they behave?

Get different colors and different sizes, but be sure to get a heavy duty for the purses and bags. They last longer. Go ahead, ask me how I know.....

lillybeck 03-03-2011 07:04 AM

LOL I knew I liked y seam ripper but you really have a way with words.

costumegirl 03-03-2011 07:13 AM

I am sorry but I laughed out loud at your little story! Your woes are well written and I can totally relate!!
I have about 3 rippers on hand that are all different sizes but the one I like the best is the one my daughter gave me. It has a pink and lavender handle and is ergonomic and easy to grip - I think she got it at JoAnns.

nab 03-03-2011 07:30 AM

I love this board!! I too understand your loss. I have many little buddies. Some of them come and go, but I love them all. Good luck on your search for a new friend. I too would buy more than one. The more the merrier.

Grama Lehr 03-03-2011 07:41 AM

R.I.P. Little buddy, you served your mistress well.

amandasgramma 03-03-2011 07:44 AM

I don't know --- from my viewpoint it looks like you had an unhealthy relationship with him. Could be you set yourself up to needing him WAY too often, therefore, having him gone may benefit you! You became too needy....... If you find you need the new guy as often, counseling may be in order!!!! Are you having a funeral?????????????

seamstome 03-03-2011 07:52 AM

RIP....somebody has a great sense of humor. I use the surgical ones and buy 6 at a time at the quilt shows. If I didnt have a seam ripper at the cutting table, ironing board and sewing table, I would panic.

Charming 03-03-2011 07:55 AM

OMG you guys are soooo funny...I love my QB buddies {{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{{hugs to all}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}}

G'ma Kay 03-03-2011 08:11 AM

I have about 5 in my drawer.

Arleners 03-03-2011 08:26 AM

LMAO! I tell my students that the Seam Ripper will be their best friend, but I have never seen someone bond as weill as you!
Candy red body though! HMMMMMMMM Smokin'

Matilda 03-03-2011 09:10 AM

Sorry for your loss! :-D I am sure you will find another "buddy" soon. When ever I teach sewing classes I tell my students they have to have a seam ripper and to name her. She will become their best friend!

My seam rippers name is Jack He comes with 6 blades from Lee Valley Tools and is an absolute gem. www.leevalley.com

spindreams 03-03-2011 11:00 AM

RIP to the RIPper. Ha Ha!

IBQLTN 03-03-2011 12:18 PM

Please accept my condolences. You are to be admired for sticking by your little Rip all this time.

I am so very unfaithful ... I confess I've gone far beyond two-timing and there have been multiple births. I think I must have 6 or 7; some have cracked tops, some have too large a point, some aren't comfortable but I just can't make myself let any of them go.

I stash them in the arm chair caddie, in my traveling 'notions bag' that stays with my sewing machine's rolling bag, one or two are in the drawer of my sewing machine cabinet close at hand, one or two are stashed in the accessory tray that fits onto the sewing machines ... I guess I have always been in search of a perfect little Rip. How lucky you were to find him so quickly.

tinliz 03-03-2011 12:45 PM

May your little ripper RIP. :)
El Burns uses a rotary cutter to rip. sounds dangerous but it works. Sorry I do not remember which show on which she demonstrated this.
