Bad news - quilt class cancelled. Lost Ebay bid for featherweight.
Good news - quilt class rescheduled. Bid on another featherweight - won that one then found out my DH had bid on another featherweight without telling me and won! I now have 2 featherweights coming!
Live is good.

What a good husband.

janetks 04-23-2011 04:49 AM

I feel silly asking this, but what is a 'featherweight'? I have deduced that it is a type of sewing machine, but please explain the value of it in quilting.

sandpat 04-23-2011 05:21 AM

Things are going your way, Congrats!

dixiechunk 04-23-2011 07:20 AM

And the best part is it's all DH's fault! Such a fault...

dixiechunk 04-23-2011 07:23 AM

Vintage Singer lightweight machine called a Featherweight but it is technically a 221 model. Made of aluminum it weighs like 9 lbs (11lbs with the case). Has a fold up extension bed. Only sews a straight stitch but a beautiful, consistent one. All mechanical so most of us can service our own. Great portable for taking to class.
And cute, so cute. Just darling. Love mine.

So true! I had never thought of that. Will be sure to quote you next time someone asks why I have so many.

wraez 04-23-2011 10:15 AM

Well! I am just downright green with envy. You lucky lady. Yes you are blessed 3 times over ... featherweight, featherweight and that sweet loving hubby!

scrappy happy 04-23-2011 10:55 AM

one lucky lady

Debbie C 04-23-2011 12:46 PM

Janet, many of us here seem to collect featherweights (I have 3!) because they are the best little gals to work on. They are also known in sewing circles where I grew up in Brooklyn, NY as Eleven Pound Portables. Some quilters here have been lucky enough to stroll into a 2nd hand store and find one for as little as a $10 bill, while others have been waiting for that stroke of luck because too many Greedy Gus's out there have priced them into the several hundreds. Persistence and patience will pay off - stay alert and look for that little black box with the metal snaps on the front - Lady Luck might be waiting for you just around the next corner!

janetks 04-23-2011 12:55 PM

Thanks, Debbie! Is the Featherweight a certain brand?

mosquitosewgirl 04-23-2011 12:57 PM

Happy Easter! Looks like you'll be hoppin' with all those machines to work with...LOL
