What do you think of basting spray? Have you used it? Did you like it? Are there any disadvantages?
I have never used it, and am thinking about using it on a large throw (60" sq), but am afraid to mess it up. I want to FMQ, and hope to get started (and finished!) a little sooner than if I take time to do basting stitches free hand or on my frame (which is only 48", so would need do in 2 sections). Any advice? |
follow the directions on the can, 505 seems to be popular, less fumes, but still use in a well ventilated area :D:D:D

I use it all the time and have never had any problems. I place my batting on a large cardboard roll and roll it down the quilt backing, I have less puckering on the quilt back. I then spray baste the batting and roll the quilt top over it the same way. It works a treat.

I love it. It works so much better than pinning and is much faster.

I spray the backing first, generally in sections as it's easier to work with. Once the backing is attached to the batting, I spray the batting and go through the same process with quilt top. Always leave the spray basting for a few minutes until it's tacky. I always machine quilt and some of the spray basting attaches to the needle. I just clean it off as I go.

Go for it! some say the spray basting may ruin the quilt over time due to the chemicals. I figure over time I will make alot of quilts and they are meant to be used and all will wear out eventually. I have never used a pin on anything since I started using the spray. Saves alot of time too!
