does batik fabric work for rag quilts/
does it ravel?

No, it's not the preferred fabric for rag quilts.

pretty fabric but it doesn't fray well for rag quilting.

YES! If it's woven, it will ravel.

The tight weave of a batik make them wonderful to sew on, but not a good choice if you are looking for a fabric that ravels. Batiks printed on Rayon will ravel better than cotton.

thank you all, I just wondered if batiks worked for rag quilts.

Open weaves, flannel or homespun ravels best.

If you find some batiks you'd like to use, USE THEM. Quilting is very personal. You make the choices.

I don't believe they will ravel well for a rag quilt - that is why so many hand appliquers like them!

I am a rag quilter designer and use only 100% cotton and have never had problems making wonderful one of a kind rag quilt.

Last two years I have had all sorts of folks around here wanting to make rag quilts after they saw how well it looked using 100% cotton. Most had not even ever heard of a rag quilt or if they did they thought it could only be done with flannel.

Batiks is one of my favorite fabrics. Actually the most favorite so I use it alot.
