batting or other
 

I will be making a prayer quilt for someone who lives in Trinidad. Because the weather is warm year round there I was looking for some suggestions on what to put in the middle of the quilt so that it will not be too warm or heavy for the person to use. Should I use batting as normal (I usually use Warm and White cotton batting) or something else. Also this will be a tied quilt and not quilted. Any thoughts or suggestions would be helpful. Thank you

a layer of muslin may work just fine- i've made quite a few lightweight (florida) quilts with muslin for batting- they came out very well-
cotton batting tends to be kind of heavy-
some people just use a layer of flannel for batting too- those work out nice also.
if you want batting i would go with a very low-loft lightweight one- ...but i don't know if those are ideal for tied quilts- the muslin or flannel would be fine for a tied quilt

I agree, very thin cotton batting, flannel, or muslin would be perfect. You really don't want to put W & N in this one.

That being said, I nap very comfortably under a cotton quilt with Quilters Dream wool batting when the house is 70/72 degrees, and I LOVE the drape, feel, and weight (light!) of it.

I've used Quilters Dream Request. It is a very low loft cotton batting. I used it in a flannel quilt and was worried that it would make the quilt to warm, but it actually seemed to keep it a bit cooler than just flannel alone would have.

or, use the batting people use in quilted garments. Thermolam, or ...lan...it is very thin, poly, lightweight and would work well in the warm/hot climate

Thank you for all your suggestions. When I have the top finished I will see which one will make the most sense. Probably will go with the muslin or flannel.
