Batting question...advise needed for bridal quilt
 

I'm marking the borders from my grandbaby's wedding quilt and am getting ready to sandwich it.

I want the quilting to really show and am in a quandry about what to do. i had blanned on using a batting of either Quilter's dream...or of Hobbs 80/20.

But now I'm reading that many use 2 layers of batting to make the quilting really pop. I'm soooo new to this and am not familiar with battings enough to make this decision.

I really want this to be a WOW moment for her, so I need advise from you.

I've seen so many pics of those quilting on this site where their quilting is beautiful and really stands out. Hoping those folks will advise me.

So, one batting or two? What to use for batting(s)?

oh...forgot to say..i'm using a 15" throated mid-arm quilting machine with a sit-down table set up.

i have seen that many quilters use one layer of cotton blend batting and put a layer of poly on top of that.

I just had one quilted with a tonal in the border and feathers. To make them pop up, we used 80/20 and poly batting on top. LAer thought it worked nicely and the feathers are very defined.

Are you making the quilt on the front of that book? That is one beautiful quilt and I can only imagine what the others inside look like, just beautiful. Today I watched this tute by Leah Day where she talks about the batting she used to get the pop she wanted. Maybe you would like to watch it and decide if that would be for you. I Love the look of two batting layers , I use one of cotton ( typically Warm and Natural) and one layer of thin poly. Those that I have double batted , I have sent to the Long Arm Pro as my machine's throat is pretty small.
Wool also gives very nice definition to the quilting stitches.

Check with one of your local LAers. Many will give recommendations and explain things to you.
