I have someone who wants a quilt made but wants the quilt to have weight to it. I don't want something too obscene to quilt through.

It's going to be queen size, not anything I can feed through the home machine. The LQS has a long arm they rent, but I have to have the training for it. I didn't really want to do a generic design either..

I usually use Warm and Natural/White. But have a 100% wool batting to try. This is a bachelor though. Need ease of cleaning.

So, do you have any suggestions???

What about making it like a duvet cover. Then he can slip one of those down comforter things inside of it. I've never made a quilted(pieced) one before, so I have no ideas on how to do that and it be sturdy. Maybe quilt the top just to a backing with no batting or with flannel inside and then put together like a duvet with another backing (did that make any sense at all?).

It is easier to quilt on the longarm (for me anyway) than the poly is.

I haven't tried the wool because I can't handle it, I'm alergic to wool.

Get the book REVERSIBLE QUILTS TWO AT A TIME by Sharon Pederson. You construct the block and quilt it at the same time then put the quilt together with strips.

You might want to make the quilt out of flannel with Hobbs 80/20 cotton batting if you want ease of cleaning. I made a quilt with this combo in 1999, it gets washed weekly and it's still together and keeps everyone warm that is snuggled up with it.

Many people have tried to take that quilt because it is so cuddly warm and well used.

I've used wool before and it does have a nice weight. I use Hobbs and just wash the quilt like usual. never had a problem with shrinkage or puckering.

I'd go with wool, too.

I've used two layers of Warm and White for extra weight and it's not difficult to quilt through.

I did a quilt with two batts, cotton on the bottom and wool on top. Since you'll be using a longarm, this is very doable. Quilts like butter.... and is pretty heavy.
