Batting question
 

I'm making a quilt for a new baby and was anxious to get it done, but when I went looking for batting, couldn't find the Warm and White, which I usually use. But I did find a piece of polyester which was just the right size. Well, I used that and have the quilt about 1/4 quilted when I decided it might be too heavy and not soft enough. I live about 50 miles from a Hobby Lobby (my Hancock's is always out of cotton batting) I looked at batting to try to identify it and I think it's something called Therma Lam if I remember right. My thought was that was probably best for wall hangings and placemats. Question is, should I take it all out and replace it with cotton batting? It will certainly be a warm quilt, which is okay, but do you think washing will soften it up? Thanks in advance for your comments.

I use polyester to make the quilts fluffier- not sure why this brand isn't soft enough have never used it

I never use poly....always cotton. I don't like the way poly looks...too "store bought" in my humble opinion.

Perhaps this batt will make the quilt perfect for the baby to lie on the floor with? My daughter asked specifically for a 'floor quilt' that I made with the poly batt. Hope you can find what works for you. (I sure wouldn't want to take out quilting....!) Good luck.

I prefer poly for baby quilts. It washes and dries fast. You know what gets on baby quilts and they need to be washed very often. Don't take out the stitches, as it could cause some damage.
Warm is a good cotton batting, but I find it a little heavy for a tiny baby. Poly won't be as heavy on the little arms and legs though. Just keep going. You're doing fine.

I always use poly batting, very soft and warm without the weight. I use the high loft as I find it not as thick as the maker claims.

I always use poly in my baby quilts unless someone asks for something different. I have never had any complaints.

on the other hand, i always make baby quilts with poly...you can never know about allergies in young ones and the poly is hyperallergenic...and it washes and dries much quicker than a cotton...

What you have is used for wall hangings and wearable art mostly but should still be fine for the baby quilt. It does not get real soft but is a good batting.
