Batting substitute?
 

Has anyone ever used polyester fleece as batting? I have a 60" wide piece I am trying to come up with a use for.

If it's pretty, just use it as backing, if you don't want it to show, use it as batting.

Depending on the colors of the quilt and the fleece, it can make a good warm batting( much warmer than cotton) . Do check to make sure the colors of the fleece don't show through the backing fabric or quilt top fabrics.

It is VERY warm. I have used fleece instead of backing & batting. Washes well, super soft.

I use it a lot for kid quilts. It holds up really well and is extra soft and cushy. Once in a while, Joanns has the 15 yards bolts on sale for $20. I usually pick up one or two and keep it on hand. Then I can just through together some fabrics, make a top that is 58x 48, back it with the fleece and tie it. So in a couple of days, I can have a really nice useable quilt with my stash.

When i make a kids quilt for donation i try to match it to the front. Comes out great.

Over the holidays I bought an entire bolt of fleece. Thankfully, this thread has helped me make the decision. I'm using this for my next quilt backing!!!

I have used it as batting. No problems with it.

I use fleece for combination backing/batting on almost all my throws. So quick and easy! Awhile back I had a chance to get fleece at a really good price and bought bolts of it in navy, brown, black, burgundy, and forest green. Have also gotten the fleece throws at end of season clearance. Wish I could find a sale like that again. I'm getting close to running out.
