I have always used warm and natural.joann's has pellon on sale.has anyone used the pellon?

I bought a bolt/roll of it several months back . I used it for the first time a month ago. I noticed the scrim is not as intregal to the cotton fibers as the warm and natural. When I preshrunk the batting in the same way I would warm and natural the scrim seemed to separate from the fibers. So for long term repeated washings , I am not sure it would hold up. I need to take a chunk .. create a mini test quilt the size of a potholder and toss it in the wash every time I do a load and see what happens. One of the reasons I like warm and natural is for those projects that I want to preshrink the batting Warm and Natural holds up the best.

I bought Pelon last time because it was on sale and I have just finished a quilt with it. I do not pre-wash because I like the crinkle effect. I quilted it on my long arm, washed it once and crinkle was amazing. Considering that most of my quilts are relatively densely quilted, I am not worried about it falling apart. But then again, only time will tell.

I've used the packaged one made from recycled fibers. My daughter is very pleased with her quilt and has requested the same for her wall hanging. I do preshrink mine. I've never used W & N so I can't compare the two. I do like the feel of the finished product better than quilts with W & N I've seen done by others.

You prewash your batting and put it in the dryer Lori?

I have used Pellon Nature's Touch (I think there are other Pellon battings). It is very similar to Warm and Natural, especially in weight and handling. Both are needlepunched through scrim. The Pellon is sheds considerably more lint, but that was the only difference I could see.

When I do have the need to preshrink battings (cotton battings) , for table runners or other items that I don't want a crinkle .. I soak the batting in warm water , spin it to dry , then toss in the dryer. I really don't like a crinkle table runner. I want it to remain as flat as the day I finished it , no matter how many times I wash and dry it. Now bed quilts .. crinkle is OK when I want a vintage look.

pellon makes/offers many different batts---which one are you wondering about?
there are cotton, poly, blends, different weights, density, loft...some are great (probably all are ok if used for the purpose they are made for) just read the packaging & quilt to the recommendations (if it says quilt every 2-4" then that's what you need to do-i've been quilting since 1976,,,never once have i pre-washed a batt...never once have i had one fall apart.
