My local Bernina dealer told me there aren't parts available for this machine anymore. When I say "parts", I mean the computerized parts also. Does anyone know for certain if this is true? I don't want to be paranoid, but sometimes I think a dealer's wish for a sale prompts this response. :?:

I don't think that is quite right...at least I hope not. I purchased a 21 year old 1230 a few months ago and my service man (not a Bernina rep currently but he knows his stuff) said he had lots of parts available. I have also heard you can get about anything you need on Ebay. I will be watching to see what more experienced sewers have to say on this.

Thanks. I hope you're right and we're going to be comforted by abundant well educated sewers. The machine I'm looking at is in great shape with walking foot for $1000. Do you think that's too much?

I would write Bernina directly and ask about parts.

Great idea!!!

I would not pay that price for a 20 yr old Bernina. I have used Berninas for over 30yrs. Bernina only guarantees parts availability for 20 yrs. You Bernina serviceman may have his own supply that he has acquired over the years.

I paid 450.00 and got the folding table, walking foot, and six extra feet with it. So I'm not sure that is a good price. My service man told me I paid about the right price, and then got a bargain with the extra stuff. My machine was in very good condition. The light switch and the foot pedal were the only two things he needed to work on. Now it works great!

I would suggest that you e-mail Bernina USA and ask them if the parts are still available.

Wow! That $450 was a steal! Was it from an aquaintance? Ebay has one listed as $1999 Buy it Now price. Yikes! I'm going to have to rethink this.

I just had my 1230 sent to the Bernina service center in Il. They went though the entire machine and replaced parts as needed. One thing was a stepping motor and now it works like new. I am THRILLED!
