I looked at and bought Bernina 930 that I posted about the other day. It had been sitting in the basement and had NO TLC. It was dirty and the guy said it had never been oiled since it was new. DW started to sew and it clattered loadly. The select lever would not select all of the stitches. I am hoping that it just needs cleaned and oiled. It came with all the feet, hard case and the cabinet. Someone said that the cabinet was free with the purchase of the machine, as the owner said also. Does anyone know when that might have been? They could not remember when they bought it. I belive they were made between 1978 and 1989. I did get it for a good price if I can get it cleaned up and working.

Good for you. Glad you got the machine. You can email the Bernina people with the serial number and they should be able to tell you when it was produced. I did that with my 1530. Enjoy the machine. I hope all you need is oil to make her purr.

I have a Bernina930 and love it. I bought it in about 1978 I think. I worked in a fabric shop at the time and that is what we used to do alterations, put zippers in jeans, etc. They are a workhorse. There isn't too much to oiling them. Did it have the manual with it? It should tell how to take it down to be oiled. Good luck.patti

The Stitch selector switch not working is very common when not properly oiled. It should come back to life quickly with oiling! Good luck!

I'm betting it can be saved and I KNOW it'll be worth it (I have a 930 that I bought from another QBer). Have you joined the yahoo group "Bernina ThirtySomethings"? At least two expert Bernina techs are members and respond regularly to questions. Good luck getting your rescue up and sewing soon!
