I am a Bernina Lover for sure.

Thinking of buying a 640e, what do you think??

Do you think Bernina will be upgrading this model any time soon??

Let me know all your thoughts.

I have a 630E that is about 6 or 7 years old. I love my machine. I was almost going to get the 640 at the time but got a great deal (e-bay) on my 630 Don't know when they will be changing the model, it has been around for 7 or 8 years or so

I read on patternreview.com from a poster that has a 635 and just traded it in for an 820 at a special event, that the head of Bernina announced that a new 500 series will be coming out this summer. So I'm waiting for that before making any additions to my flock of machines. Patternreview.com has machine reviews and discussion boards, lots of Bernina talk. Check it out!

I too am a Bernina lover...Have a workhose 1630 that I have REALLY used for 15+/- yrs and a 180 embroidery/sewing machine that I absolutely love. It seems that Bernina is always coming out with newer ideas and sometimes it is just as easy and less costly to update what you know and love. I have done that. Nothing sews like a Bernina!!! Have not looked at Patternreview.com yet, but will do that.

It worked out wonderful for me!!! I was so scared. It came from an "I Sold It" store in Florida, or something like that. I took it to my local Bernina dealer and there were only about 10 hours of sewing on the machine and no time on the embroidery unit. it was in fantastic condition. The only thing I can think of is that someone bought it, used it a little and then for some unknown reason, could not use it any more. Maybe her family took it to be sold???? But.... buying it used, it did not come with a warrenty

My thinking would be to go full speed ahead! Bernina introduced the 8 series already. They introduced the 3 series machines. The 3 series is below the abilities of the 640. The 8 series would be my preference. The upgrades you fear are already out in the 8 series, and if they don't interest you the 640 is an excellent choice. It also gives you a great deal of flexibility with embroidery. I like the start / stop button which is not available on the 730. I think you will be very satisfied with the 640.

Thank you for the info, wondering what the new machines will have???

I Love my 1630 and some of the functions are now only reappearing at the 830 level. Have a Deco but its embroidery capabilities are limited.
