When using the BSR for free motion quilting I am having a problem with skipped stitches. I have changed needles, thread, tension; everything I can think of. But I still have a problem with skipped stitches. Any suggestions? I hate going through this trial and error process everytime I want to quilt. Very frustrating.

I have found that this happens to e when the neelde is dull or when sewing on a stretchy fabric, but it may also happen when a little thread has build in the buttom of the machine. Don't use canned air, but with a small brush you should be able to clean it and see it this helps. Also, slow down especially when negotiating curves. A stitch may skipped if you go too fast.

Once when I cut my batting just a little too small I had that problem when I quilted right at the edge that didn't have batting. Coudl the batting be the problem? Are you using a quilting needle?

The slightest burr on the plastic bobbins will make my stitches go awry...

Is the needle too small for the thread? This will cause skipped stitches as the thread won't sit properly in the groove at the back of the needle, causing it to jump out and skip a stitch. Try a larger needle or thinner thread.

I have the 430 and I just needed to slow down. My first try, soooooo many skipped stitches. After I slowed down, a lot fewer. My machine will work for 3/4 of the quilt perfectly and then it will start skipping stitches for about 5 minutes. I stop, give the machine a few minutes break, and then it's fine. Weird, but probably good to remind me to take a break :)
