Does anyone with this machine have experience with the BSR for free motion quilting? I am using this function for the first time and need to get my quilt done quickly. Specifically I am having difficulty making smooth curves. The start/stop function is hard to control causing jagged movement. The weight of the quilt stops or slows the movement as well. Hope this makes sense to someone out there. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I found this site really helpful. It takes practice......also I use #2 mode with the foot peddle.

I love the BSR. I use the foot control and BSR 1. It sounds like the main problem you're having is controlling the movement of the fabric. With any free motion, you need to prevent the weight of the quilt from hindering the motion. It might help to practice just positioning and moving your fabric on the machine without having it turned on. It helps if you have something to support the bulk of the fabric to the left of and behind the machine.

I don't have a BSR on my Bernina but I do know that the quilting part is always easier w/something to the left of your machine to drape your quilt over. I don't have room for a table so I use the back of a chair placed a few inches from my machine table. The support of the bulk of the quilt should help with the drag issue.

Mode 1 with the foot pedal works better for me - I practiced with both modes 1 and 2 - took time to learn how to use it well but now I love it.

Thanks for this site and all the good information. I have the BSR and have used it for totes and wall hangings. Getting ready for the big things next.
