Bernina Sewing Machines
Hi Guys,
Last August I bought an Aurora 630. Unlike my other machines I apparently need to oil the Bernina.... can somebody tell me how often I should do it? Hugs Caroline |
You should check with your dealer as they are covering your warranty. And read the manual and do as it says.

Check your manual. It should give you instructions not only on how often, but where exactly you should oil it. It probably varies by machine. I have an Aurora 440 EQ and the machine actually tells me when to add oil.

I agree, it is in your manual. If it's like my 440, you just add a drop to the bobbin race every couple of bobbins. I don't like waiting for the machine to tell me <grin>.

Why not email them? And call your local dealer.

Thanks guys,
I have read the manual and it stated that it needs oiling every 180,000 stitches and that a little sign will come up when it reaches that point..... but I read on the internet people saying that they oil with every bobbin change.... So I thought I would ask you all ..... then maybe find a happy medium! 180,000 stitches seems a lot to me! Hugs Caroline |
I try to oil my Berninas every 2 bobbins or so, at least after every large project. The parts are actually metal therefore they need to be oiled. Many other machines have plastic parts that don't need to be oiled. I have a Pfaff Creative Vision that doesn't require oiling, which I thought was odd since I was "raised" on Bernina.

I oil my Bernina when it starts sounding clunky- about ever 4-5 bobbins. Then it purrs like a kitten.
Just a single drop on the back of the bobbin race. My dealer showed me where. |
I've found that my Bernina 430 is a thirsty gal...I oil her every time I clean the bobbin area, which is after about 8 hours of sewing time or sooner if I'm using something linty (cheap thread, batting, etc). Or, if it starts that clunk sound like Skittl321 mentions.

I'm with you, I oil mine after 8hours of use. Watch the oil too, for it goes bad after about 6months, and you have to buy new again.
