Best bonding for applique

I'm working on a baby quilt that will have an appliqued center block.
I've never appliqued on a quilt, so I was wondering what your favorite
bonding "fabric" is. I don't want it to be stiff, but soft when finished.
Thanks for your help. Kathy

Elmer's Glue Stick. Yes, the one kids use. I like it because I can pick the pieces up and move them if aren't "just" right, unlike heatbonds once your stuck, you're stuck!

If you need a fusible, my recommendation is MistyFuse. It is very soft. Does not come with a paper backing, but all you have to do is place a piece of parchment paper between it and your iron (or use a Teflon applique sheet when ironing).

With all fusibles, you will still want to machine stitch around the outside edges of the applique -- especially for a baby quilt, which will get frequent washing. However, you can do this with a straight stitch close to the edge.

Edit: MistyFuse is available on Amazon and eBay. Have not seen it in stores. Of the kind you can get in stores, Steam-a-Seam Light is the softest one I have tried. However, it is still much stiffer than MistyFuse.

The glue stick works great. I do back basting when I hand applique; you didn't mention what kind of applique you were doing so I don't know if this is an option.

If you are looking for a fusible webbing, my preference is Shades Softfuse....Very easy to work with, lightweight and soft......Here's the link to their website...

I've used MistyFuse, which I found at Hancock's, and my quilting friends also recommend one called Soft Fuse.

Mistyfuse makes the quilt the softest.
