BETTY62 01-14-2011 10:40 PM

I am going to attempt to make the My Rose of Sharon (traditional with a twist) quilt designed by Bev Getschel that is on the December 2010 cover of Quilter's World magazine. I need 3/4 yards of 10 different white with black prints and 1 fat quarter each of 18 red fabrics. I live in a small town that does not have a LQS. There are only 2 other QS that I know of in a 25-30 mile range, however, they do not have a very large selection of fabrics. What would be the best on-line shop to order from? I am looking for one that will give me quality fabric at a fair price. Any help you can give me will be appreciated. I am sure several of you may be shop owners, however, I am to new to the board to know who you are. If you have a shop but do not sell on-line, have quality fabric and competative prices, please send me a PM and I will get back to you. Thanks. Betty

I see you are in Texas. Send a PM to sak658. There is a shop in Texas with great fabrics at a great price. Not online, but she helped me by emailing photos and I ordered over the phone. I ordered Tuesday and got them today. They were perfect. I posted a picture in another thread.

Betty, I have not purchased fabric from connecting threads but others on the board have, it seems as if they have been happy with it and it's priced reasonably. You can google it. Let me know if you have trouble with that, ok? Kathy

BETTY62 01-14-2011 11:19 PM

Thank you for responding to my post. I have sent the PM to Shirley. Guess she is sleeping and will get back to me in the morning. Are you a night owl like me?

BETTY62 01-14-2011 11:20 PM

Thank you Kathy. I appreciate your help.

Your welcome Betty! Good luck with your fabric search and have fun!

Good luck from England. I'm always so jealous of the shops and prices in the US. I've found a place locally with some pretty fabrics but our prices are really high. Good luck with finding your fabric and hope you enjoy your project.

Fabric shack is brilliant, I buy regularly from the U.K. could not afford to buy all my fabric in this country. Here is the address.

fabric.com...free shipping after $35 and how easy is it to spend $35? great customer service, great fabric selection!

Laura3 01-15-2011 05:45 AM

I also love Fabric.com I have ordered several times and love the quality and the order ships very fast..

feffertim 01-15-2011 05:50 AM

I think connecting threads is the place. Their fabric is great, prices can't be beat and they have a wonderful selection. They have an online catalog, and once you order, you get their mail catalog every month which I can't wait to get. They also have great clearance sales

sewcrafty 01-15-2011 05:53 AM

Here's a place right in TX:

http://www.stitchinpost.com/stitchinpost.html

maybe they'd have something for you.

There's also Marshall Dry Goods which is a good place to get fabric from.

pocoellie 01-15-2011 06:08 AM

Thousands of Bolts and Whittle-great prices, great fabrics and great customer service.

SuzanneG 01-15-2011 06:24 AM

I'm sure there are lots of great online quilting sites, but one of my all time favorites is Connecting Threads. Their fabric is wonderful, the prices are great, they ship quickly and are lovely to deal with. And no, I'm not affiliated with them! I just love to share when I find such a great place to shop.

feffertim 01-15-2011 06:40 AM

I agree, they are the best

Yes, I am usually on here until midnight or later CA time. Usually go to bed by 2am. She can send you some great pictures of the shelves.

Nancy, thank you for letting me know about Shirley and Dovie. I sent Shirley a PM last night and she gave me the phone number for Dovie's shop. I placed a large order this morning and can hardley wait for my new stash to arrive. It's a bummer that the PO is closed on Monday for the MLK holiday, however, if I had job outside of the home, I would be doing the Happy dance. LOL Thanks again. Betty

I was amazed at the extra service they give and how quick I got everything. The prices were excellent for Moda, which I love!!! Post pictures when you get it.

Betty...Shirley was probably resting, they've been swamped this week.

A very basic website was launched for the shop on Tuesday and will eventually become a full service online shop as time & resoures but for now it shows the $1 clearance & $2 calicos. Other materials modas, batiks, marbles, etc normally run $5-9 a yd but are all currently 1/2 off. They've got a great selection. Hopefully you'll see more online in upcoming weeks.

I'm sure Shirley will get back to you very soon.

Tinabodina 01-15-2011 09:41 AM

I too use fabric.com and a place called hearttoheartfabrics.com

I went and checked it out. Simple but a great start! I knew she was going to have a website but thought it was months away! I actually found more to order, but need to wait until DH leaves for work! I'm calling my DSIL too!

BETTY62 01-15-2011 05:04 PM

Thank you Annie for responding to my post. I would like to shop in some of your shops so I could see the difference between the fabrics and LQS in the two countries. Have a great evening.

Blue's quilting mama 01-15-2011 05:08 PM

FavoriteFabrics.com is where I have ordered, and I have been happy with how quickly the fabrics came and the prices are competitive, too.

BETTY62 01-15-2011 05:09 PM

Thank you for the information Ashlett. I will check to see what is available.

BETTY62 01-15-2011 05:11 PM

Thank you for the information. You are right, $35 goes quick in a frabic shop. Have a great evening.

I really like Favorite Fabric. The owner is a frequent participant here and is wonderful at sharing whats happening in the world of quilt fabrics. I have had the pleasure of going to the "shop" and order on line ... wonderful people , good prices, awesome service!

Thank you Lori. I really would like to order from someone who is part of the quilting family. I am new to quilting and new to this board. Since I joined, I have ask so many questions and have receive so much help from so many, that I would like to give back to my quilting family when it's possible.

Annevc 01-16-2011 03:35 AM

I buy alot of fabric through www.equilter.com . I never have had any trouble with the orders or the quality of the fabric.

plainpat 01-16-2011 03:40 AM

There are several good on line shops, but one thing to watch for is,many sell by the yd only.I love a good sale, but for service & a good range of fabrics,my fav is "Thousands of Bolts".

lwbuchholz 01-16-2011 04:23 AM

I was introduced to this shop when in Texas and they have everything. I am getting ready to place an order so don't know about their service or shipping.

I like fabric, com. They take paypal. I also take online surveys for "points" Points are then traded in for FREE gift cards to many stores online. I like to think of it supporting my habit.

maureenq 01-16-2011 05:54 AM

Hancock's Fabrics of Paducah. Digital on=line catalog. Easy to see the fabric in detail. Plus help over the phone if you need it.

kanakama 01-16-2011 06:06 AM

Check out www.fabshophop.com. You don't have to join the hop, but you can check out the list of shops. There are lots and many of them have sales.

grannyp70 01-16-2011 06:29 AM

Hi Betty, when did you pm Shirley? A friend of hers pasted away yesterday afternoon and that is probably why she hasn't gotten back with you, I am sure that she will get in touch with you sometime today. Anyway that is a really great little quilt store there and the fabric is really great. Oh by the way where is Mabank? If you are close fairly close to Granbury, please let me know we are trying to get as many board members as we can together, we had a good get together yesterday and are planning on another on really soon. Would love to have you come and join us. Nita

kbeuchert 01-16-2011 06:35 AM

I saw at least one person mention "Thousands of Bolts" It would be a great place for what you want, it is so easy to narrow down the fabrics to look at by color. Check it out. I have bought fabric from them and the quality was very nice.

Have Fun

Cris 01-16-2011 06:59 AM

ditto on fabric.com, nice material and they usually have coupons. I just google fabric.com coupons and use the codes. They always ship within 2 days.

I agree. I also like the vast choice at Hancocks-Paducah and their lovely catalog which you can now see online. I agree on the efficiency of the CT site and their specials. Now I'll check out some of the other sites you all have mentioned. Many heads make light work!

fivepaws 01-16-2011 08:28 AM

Hi Betty, Texas Quiltworks is a great on-line as well as LQS. I live in VA. so I've never seen any of these stores. I mainly order on line: conecting threads.com, equilter.com are good ones and there is always hancocks of Paducha. Lynne
