one of the secret swap months, by partner send me a binding budding!
I just love and want to make more of them for gifts, so I need to know who made it, is it a copyright or an original idea, and do I need permission to make more of them?

Thanks in advance!

Flying_V_Goddess 06-01-2011 08:25 PM

I think June Tailor makes it

no, this was home made using a pool needle wrapped with fabric...nothing fancy...but really useful!

PurplePassion 06-01-2011 08:57 PM

Can you show a picture of it? I'm not sure what you are talking about.

montanajan 06-01-2011 09:24 PM

A picture would be most helpful. Thanks.

alikat110 06-01-2011 09:27 PM

Sounds creative and useful

Just find some of that "what was I thinking" fabric and off you go!
I might do a Tute on it later...

true4uca 06-02-2011 09:32 AM

Sounds like something we might reallly need. Inquiring minds need to know. Hope you do a tute.

I just want to make sure I am stepping on anyone's toes, or violating a copyright..then I can post what I made! Really very easy and everyday, so doubt there is a copyright, but need to make sure!

You've really got my curiosity up, now.

Rose_P 06-02-2011 11:10 AM

I can't picture how it would be used. Please explain.

There is a plexi ruler called "Binding Buddy". I love it, but wish it would come in 2 1/4" and maybe some other sizes for cutting strips, not just for bindings.

this is used to ROLL your binding on after you press it...that way it is ready for you to put on the quilt and instead of a huge pile of stringy binding, you have a nice neat roll of it that plays nicely while you are attaching it to your quilt!

The only Binding Buddy I'd ever heard of was this one:
http://quiltinaday.com/shoponline/no...ay.asp?i=13513

I use a heavy roll of packing tape. Stick the end under the tape to hold it in place, iron the length of the ironing board, turn the roll of tape like a spool to take up the pressed binding, iron again, etc. Heavy enough to keep the binding sitting on your sewing cabinet, just unwind a few feet at a time. :)

interesting...but not the same...around your neck...really...strange...I am working on pix now...

thepolyparrot 06-02-2011 01:38 PM

Yeah, I tried that one one time. It kept trying to grab my blouse as it unwound, getting the blouse wound around it with the binding.

I went back to my packing tape. Easy and no hassles and nearly everyone has a roll of packing tape around, so it's free.

I think I know what you're talking about. After I make my binding, I wrap it around a hanger (the wire kind with the wood bar at the bottom that pops out) and hang it on a doorknob and use that as I do my bindings.

02bsewing 06-02-2011 02:10 PM

Never heard of it but it really sounds interesting. Can't wait for a picture and what is it used for?

GagaSmith 06-02-2011 02:30 PM

I use an empty paper towel roll. Wrap the binding around it, set it in my lap and let it unroll as I sew. Would like to see the pool noodle one too.

meemersmom 06-02-2011 03:40 PM

I use something similar to Gaga...I make mine, press it, then roll onto an empty TP roll. When I'm ready to sew on, I pop it on the extra spool pin and let it feed off of that. It doesn't tangle, twist drop, or fall victim to a playful cat while I'm sewing. I've got a collection on a peg board made out of fabric I saw (mostly stripes of some sort) that I thought would make a good binding when I bought it.

I can't wait to see the picture either. You have my curiousity up.

That's interesting because there is a June Taylor 2 1/2" X30" ruler called "Binding Buddy". I don't know who was first, but it looks as though someone may have a copyright infringement.

This other one looks like a useful tool, too, although I don't think I'd want it hanging on me. I just drop the binding in a bucket on the floor to my right, and it flows neatly enough for my purposes.

there are actually several tools called binding buddy..a copyright does not cover a name, that would be a patent and even then, different items can have the same name...so who knows...
I just called this a binding buddy for lack of a real name for it...

I posted pictures of a binding caddy I made from a wire hanger and a paper towel tube. Not as fancy as the binding buddies you showed, but it works fine for me and it was free! Here's the link:
http://www.quiltingboard.com/t-124435-1.htm

jaciqltznok 06-05-2011 07:56 AM

here are the basic directions!

the fabric size I use is 9" x 12". I fold one edge of the long side over and iron and then apply elmers glue. Roll your pool noodle into the fabric and then glue the ironed edge down. Tuck the ends into the holes of the pool noodle and squirt some glue down in there to hold them in....DONE....

when you make your binding, pin the beginning end to your "binding spool" and then as you press your binding, roll it up. Pin at the end when you are done and your binding will stored clean, press and ready to ROLL when you need it!

neat idea! :P

Sounds interesting

perfect!

romanojg 06-05-2011 09:36 AM

I use them all the time. When I have larger quilt blocks put together; especially if I'm taking them to class, etc. Or when I have material that I have ironed and want to take to class. If I wrap it around them first I might have to do a touch up but not much; I can concentrate on sewing instead of ironing.
